Changing names on customized items.

Say you were forced to change your character's name due to offensive content. I hear that after your name is changed, your customized items retain their original name. Also, with the Name Changing option already on a.net's list of possible updates. Shouldn't the customized items change according to the name of the character they were customized for? I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult because there is already a code in customized items allowing them only to be used on the character they were customized for...not even a character with an identical name. There must be a code linked to a character id that has nothing to do with the name of the character at all.

I think if it is possible for Char name change, then the items and weapons belonging to the changed name Char would change aswell. Otherwise it would be stupid and no one would change there char name because no player I would imagine would give up their current armour and spend gold, time and effort to craft another set.

Thank you for again contacting the Guild Wars Support team on this. The name on the customized items or armor will still reflect the that your character originally had. However, since those items are linked to your character's ID, you will still be able to use them as you had before.


Petition to make it change to your new name. I can't see why anyone would object to this.

What would be awesome is that you could customise the names of your weapons.

So you get a sweet fellblade and give it a name like "Soul Reaper Bob". And even nicer, if you land a critical hit you see your char yell out a customisable shout (the way you see normal shouts).

So when you smack that critical you could see a "Bob has reaped you good" shout

that would be so abusable

They said it in their response... You'll still be able to use the items, they will just have a different name. A name that you created, and were proud of to begin with. Kind of reminds me of the Scarlet Letter.

But if all you are suggesting is a small, aesthetic change, then I really don't think it is needed. Might as well impliment something more important first.

Why would the devs want to keep the name deemed offensive in the game? Also with the possibility of a name changing option on it's way, wouldn't the people wanting to change their name want their new name on their armor/weapons?

Who cares if that offensive name is still in the game? It certainly will not offend you because you created it.

I would rather have them work on somthing else then put the time in to change that little detail.

How will the names of items only usable by you offend anyone else in the game? I can see it now...

"oh n0es some1 showed me a Stylish Hose customized for Ivanna RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO Alot in the Trade Window!"
"Get a screenshot and report him!"

It would probably take like 30 minutes or less to fix that code AND I just want it for asthetic pleasure, really. Because whether they implement the name change option or not. I'd get banned purposefully to get my name changed if that's what it took. ^_^
