PLEASE. Currently I'm the leader of WGYJ(We are Godzilla You are Japan), and since we've been guild battling we've noticed two teams that were ranked decently high have ONE person start it with 4 henchmen, then just die once then leave.
This can be horrible to a guild if this happens and they are ranked highly.
Im personally scared to recruit alot of people in fear of this happening.
Anyone else think this is a good idea?
Only officers and leader initiate guild battles.

Great Idea, and knowing what guilds sunk to in ShadowBane I have no doubts some would buy a second game just for the purposes of doing this.
People exploiting the system threw a godzilla sized wrench into the GvG dynamics of SB. I would hate to see anything of the sort come to pass here.
Also Roxor, any idea where I can get in touch with some of the laddered guilds?
Not having any in game way of contacting members of a specific guild. And knowing that most of those guilds are unlikely to take on the "We recruit anyone!!!111!one!!" policy so they won't post in the guild forum. Makes it hard to work out how to get in touch with some of the more active PvP guilds.

i agree and yet i don't. I'm *just* a member and can of course understand the horror of a guild leader if this happened. I was being nosy at our guild house and clicked to have a look, but didn't enter anything. But I don't want to have to wait for one of the few leaders to be on before I can gvg... What if all my leaders were in america and im in uk? i'd never get in a war unless i stayed up to about 3 in the morning?
Just kick out people who regularly do this; if they care about the guild they won't go into a fight by themselves anyway

Well, if the leader approves of you doing GvG, then he could just make you an officer.
Or even just an option that the leader can turn on and off to allow it.
But guild work hard for their ranking, and it would be a shame to see an overzealous low level member ruin their ranking that their working for.
In my opinion, regular guildmates shouldn't even think about having ranked GvG matches without the leaders say so.

It certainly looks like you aren't alone Roxor! I'm another one who is all for it. I don't mind if permission is given but its a stab in the back when none is given and all of a sudden you're a sinking ship.
My guild is really eager to PvP and everything else but we were planning on waiting until a lot more of us in PvE got leveled high enough that we'd have some awesome mechanics to work with. Someone in the guild didn't think much of it and has entered us in our first battle. How hard is it to read a few SIMPLE guild rules?!
I, with many others obviously, am hoping that this 1) becomes a Sticky, and 2) Anet is looking into taking care of this issue or making it more balanced so any given guild doesn't get screwed because of one dumb player.

I totally agree, this would be a major help to all the guilds who are trying to climb the ladder.
Thats a good idea, but you don't know who started the Guild Battle unless you watch everyone. I would also like to see the name of the person who started the battle in the Guil history next to the outcome of the match.

Yes! There need to be restrictions on who can initiate a guild battle! Even in my guild where I pretty much trust everyone I'm nervous that someone may start a guild battle without a full team, etc., simply out of ignorance, which would be nasty for rankings. Actually, what I'd like to see implemented is more Guild Leader control over the guild structure including more ranks, and the ability to give different ranks different powers in the guild.
hmmmm yeah it could work with a few more rankings in guilds. I believe its 100 members max in a guild? Let's work with that number anyway
Leader = 1: can obviously do what the hell they like
Officer = 4: can start GvG, also can invite people to the guild
General = 20: trusted and proven PvPers who can start GvG
Members = 75: can join GvG but not start it
Of course that would need tweaking around but at least that would leave a possible 25 people to start GvG so you have a much higher chance of having someone online when you wish to GvG as a member... and of course those that become Generals would be looked up to by the members because (in theory) they have proven themselves at PvP

I agree totally, we have a probabtion period with our guild, and we have had to kick a couple players, now what happens when we irritate someone and they decided to GvG all night and drop us down, (not that we are high) but we are working on it. I agree, there has to be some limitations, more status to give, Officers, Members, Recruits,so we (the officers) can move there ranks after we think we can trust them.....this is not just a issue this is something that needs to be fixed or at least looked into....
