I have the same problem. I am a Necro which means the best weapon i can hope for is an 18-20 truncheon. The max armour I have found is 61. I have constant Energy regen but not health. I have to fight my "Mirror Image" which is wearing Waring Armour looks like the 80 stuff. He has constant health regen, and he uses a bow and an axe that do 20-30 health damage per hit. the best I can do with the truncheon against him is 15 or 18 health. I too took out all my skills.
Not much of a mirror when his armour is higher than i can ever get and he has constant health regen. The most I have been able to do is get him down to 50%. I can't use a bow or an axe I don't have skills for those things. Game breaker for me if there isn't a way to resolve this I will not purchase any of the addons, I will just play what I can of this and be done with it.

anyone can use any weapon...
You dont' have to have 'the skill' to use weapons..

If it has a requirement, sure, you wont' get full potential out of the weapon.. but you can still use it.

True but I tried to use a weapon that had max hit of 32 and it only did like 13 damage on him.

bah.... i'm having the same problem with necro/monk.. i've tried all attributes in blood and just attacking with vampire gaze, unholy feast, and blood ritual.. no use.. so i tried all curses and rotting flesh with plague touch; just went back and fourth to show the mirror has twice as much health. tried all smiting, no luck because mirror can cast twice as fast. tried pacifism with life siphon. i even throw on a 13-22 sword and tried physical attack without any skills, i just get dropped with his double damage over mine. hell even tried all points in healing with all healing spells just to see if i could heal my way for the 10 minutes.. and last 30 seconds tops. the best i can do is half damage on the mirror. necro and monk seem to be the hardest ones to do this dumb mirror fight because neither have any real attacks like warriors or elms who do this part easy. :P
so any advice? (deffiently losing interest in the game fast)

it DOES take some tries, but i beat my clone (20 R/Mo), here is a few tips that i took, DO NOT bring in healing spells, the clone will heal themself 10x better than you do, which is just annoying. Find a spell that has a fairly long cast (in my case, favorable winds), and just do NOT cast it, let the clone cast it, and you get in a few extra hits. This will also likely be the first thing the clone does, so you get a nice jump on them. I also brought Bane Signet, and as soon as the clone started attacking, cast that, and knocked her down to the ground, that was good for at least one more extra hit. Other than that, just bring in a couple of Low Mana, high damage, instant cast spells, and just blow the clone to pieces. Took me 5 attempts, but in the fifth attempt, my clone dropped in 13 seconds. Also, be sure to start attacking as soon as physically possible. Re-spec your attributes if need be. This is definitely a test of will, and skill. So don't lose hope, it is just about finding the right order to do things in. After all, it is JUST a.i.

As a warrior I beat my clone first try with 300hp/520hp left..

I thought it was too easy, perhaps it's harder as other professions.

I had a N/Me when I did this. I had a big problem as he just out damaged me with attacking. What I did was I used Faintheartedness/Conjure Phantasm and Shadow of fear/Enfeeble. For the rest of my skills I put on things I thought would hurt him if he used him. I looked for skills that didnt hurt me at all and took a while to cast or made him sacrifice health. I brought along Spirit of Failure, Price of Failure, Defile Flesh, and Plague Touch. The failures were a few second cast times and the only triggered when you attack. Defile flesh hurts your healing ability, but you're not healing and he has to sacrifice health. Plague touch is just a slot filler. I started off with Faint/Conjure and then Enfeeble/Shadow. I then ran up the side ramp so that he couldn't shoot me with his bow. He would waste his time casting the failures as my dots were working him down. He ended up casting Defile Flesh once and that also helps a ton. Keep running around the outside only stopping to throw on another dot when they run out. Hope this helps.

Thinking outside the box is the key.

I heard a mez char put up a bunch of worthless hexes so the NPC would cast them on him, then he walked up to the NPC and casted a spell to remove it all and make the enemy take hundreds of dmg in the process from an AE.

Personally, I would feel bad to go that route, as Wiz/Mez more specifically AIR wiz I plan to use big damage projectiles only and dodge around so the NPC cant hit me, and the NPC will most likely sit still allowing me to hit him.

If I cant do it that way... Well, Ill figure something out...

Just dont give up, unless you are the kind of person to give up, and then I guess if so just give up because you probably wont make it long at the high end anyway.

well i beat my mirror image my second try with my favourite skills. but when experimenting on different skill set and facing him again, im getting owned. maybe you just have to master your skill set well or maybe you haven't found the one.

for mesmers, facing your mirror image i think is a good training for interrupt skill set.

which necro spells are maybe more useful to beat the mirror? cause i may be also missing a few useful ones for this task just not quite sure. and without any hard attacks like other builds this does require much more effort, no 9 second kill. (2 days so far working on this)

Like many other challenges in the game, the key factor is skill selection. As a ranger, you have a very easy way through this mission. I'll suggest an exact skill layout, and you'll be able to figure out what I'm getting at.

Skills
-----
Penetrating Shot
Distracting Shot
any nature ritual
any nature ritual
any nature ritual
any nature ritual
any nature ritual
any nature ritual

here is how the fight goes:

he starts casting a ritual, which is a complete waste of his time
you start spamming penetrating arrows, which puts big holes in him

at some point, he tries penetrating arrow so,
you use distracting arrow, which stops him, and prevents him from using penetrating again for 20 seconds.

There you go, you've just sewn up your victory. If you don't have 6 nature rituals, just leave some of them blank, or put in capture signets, or whatever. Two is probably enough, if they're two he'll try casting.

I'm assuming this strat will work for any class with some slow, pointless spells.

Yea, I was doing what every one was telling me. Go in with no spells. Well all my friends are warriors what is the number one source of damage from a warrior. The weapon they hold. Not true for us Necros. Our number one source of damage is our magic. I pushed my blood magic up to lvl 13 went in with vampiric gaze steal 92 health from target. The truncheon i used was a 18-20. I just kept hitting him with vampiric gaze as fast as I could. Yes he used it on me but not as often as I used it on him. Killed him and I still had about 1/3 of my health left.

If we are going to play as Necros we need to do alot more thinking. Warriors just have to be big and carry a big stick and wack away. As Necros we have to put much more thought into every battle. What spell do we cast first second and third. What do we do with the dead. Do we make a minion, Heal the party, heal our self. These decisions are different ever fight we have.

Tsunamii Starshine Yea good point. I was doing what worked for others. I know what my characters strengths are and I wasn't using them. My fault for not doing what I know works . I know my health stealing spells are the best weapons I have.

The problem comes when your build's strength is focused primarily healing :| I had to have tried 10 times last night and either I couldn't get him to cast the usless skills so I could interrupt him or he would just backfire me right off the bat and then not cast at me again while he pelted me with arrows... still have a few ideas to try but as a Mo/Me this is seeming impossible.

I seem to have the same problem.I am a Mo/N, totally devoted to healing.Which leaves me the problem that I have hardly anything to attack with. The problem is that my mirror uses a bow which damages me for 30 each time he hits me. I only seems to damage him for no more than 12, whatever weapon I use...

Maybe i should try it without any healing skills at all and hope it works....

But its bloody hard when playing a Mo/N...

-edit-
juse beat it using divine boon and bane signet only. Keep using divine boon on yourself whenever you have the chance. Your mirror will only use it once and thus you should be save. Good luck

I deemed this quest impossible untill I sat down and thought about it.

I put on my bar-

Ranger / Necro

Favorable Winds
Malice (energy degen on me, life degen on him )
Some dumb necro spell that lowers max life by 33%

He debuffed himself while I spammed normal shots on him, he hit me once.

use throw dirt and carry a sword as secondary. the mirror will rush you with a sword and you can just shoot him with your bow with whatever attacks you want. it worked like a charm.
