Definitely some sage advice offered! The information provided brought a greater understanding and a little bit more knowledge on the things I want to do once the game launches!

Members often participate in another type of competition of their own creation: racing solo through mission maps to see who can complete them the fastest.
...wtf?
Quote:
When attempting missions, Isle usually does some pre-planning using TeamSpeak, although they are not picky about putting together the "perfect team".
Wait a sec. I thought alpha teams were supposed to make perfect builds to, ya know, make sure certain builds aren't horribly unbalanced. That's just what I thought they did, at least.

Random teams can succeed, but a balanced team offers a much higher success rate.
OMG really?! What were the odds?!
Quote:
During battle, Isle members use TeamSpeak to better coordinate their attacks. One player is designated as a "target caller" and designates the target that the entire team should attack, while other players are encouraged to remain silent to avoid unnecessary distractions or confusion. During guild-vs-guild combat, Isle places a high priority on maintaining control of any important map features, such as the flag stand. They also keep an eye on the match timer and attempt to kill the enemy Guild Lord if they find themselves with a numerical advantage and time available before the next resurrection.
Did they just take this out of the little strategy guide they got with the pre-order content?

Wow. What an incredibly generic report, and what an incredibly mediocre guild. Their PvP Tips are so basic it's funny. With guilds like this one in the beta no wonder testing is so lame.

The reason they give that advice is because everyone knows it but takes it for granted.

Please, no reason to pick it apart like that, obviously Guild of the Week is about showing potential GW buyers that there are a variety of guilds out there and it shouldn't be hard to find one that fits whatever gaming needs one might have. Not all of them are about hardcore PvP competition.

Let's all please be nice here.

Some things that sound incredibly generic are actually the things that do need to be restated over and over.. take a look at the Q&A section, for example. And.. as the Guilds of the Week are featured on the main website, it would probably also get the attention of quite a few people new to Guild Wars, and possibly even to gaming. As long as the Guild of the Week articles are all repeating the same things, I think there's no harm to it.

They can all come to Guru for their expert advice, no? *hugs her whole platypus happily*

We'll have a variety of articles over time. Some will cater to the newer gamer, other will cater to a more informed group of people.

It says at the beginning that they are a PvE guild...

Anyway, congrats to Isle! They are really fun to play with and are always very groovy. *wiggles for Isle*

Lighten up, decoy. The GOTW thing is designed for new players who need help getting into the game. Many of the things in the GOTW are basic to us because we are well-versed in the way the game works. Next time you feel like bashing something like that, take a breathe and make sure it really requires your input.

Everyone please take a deep breath. If this spirals any more into possible flames/flamebaiting.. I'm going to have to twist the little lock on this thread.

Congrats to Isle, and everyone play nice.

You seem to be quite the pro at this game!

How about you put your skill where your mouth is? Until then, quite critcizing every guild that is featured.

EDIT: By the way, SoW did pretty good on the ladder this BWE. Not bad for a team that practices in the arenas.

EDIT 2: Almost forgot the real reason I was here. Congrats Isle! I haven't played much with you guys, but I've heard great things about your guild. Perhaps we can have scrimmage sometime or get together for some PvE.

hmm, my comment wasn't intented as a flame...

perhaps, they the interview should go a little more in-depth or personal. like mebe the sharing of an experience -- a hard mission and how they overcame it or a particularly epic gvg battle. otherwise, the guild of the week feature seems to be heading in a boilerplate, generic direction. less facts, more emotions?

Builds and balance testing are a part of the alpha test, but not the entire purpose. Assuming that the only thing people in alpha do is make builds all day would be, for the most part, incorrect.

Everyone please calm down. Congratulations Isle of Misfits I don't know many of the guilds in Guild Wars, and this feature helps me get to know some of them

Eh, while the Guild of the Week articles are interesting and occasionally offer something good, they tend
to be on the boring side. They are not quite recruitment messages, not quite advice, and not quite fluff pieces.

So far I've liked the second one the best; they've offered the most useful advance.

In the future I'd really like to hear of interesting/successful/weird skill combos that the guild has found,
a build they've run with either success or failure, or a team or a group of monsters they fought which
destroyed them/made them laugh. Anything more then just a one liner that can be shouted before a
battle or a cliché saying. I’d really just like something to make it personal for the guild. Not just a cookie cutter
template that offers the same thing over and over.

ArenaNet is done excellent work with the website, keeping things organized, looking good, and pointing
people to the right places I'm sure they'll do the same with the articles.
