Laptop screen used for desktop

Is there any way to take off the screen of a laptop, rewire it (somehow), and use it on a desktop as the monitor?

Please help, I need a new computer but am very short of money

yes, i believe there is something at best buy that lets you turn a comp screen into a tv. then just take the s-video out from your PC and into the TV conversion thing attached to your laptop<<<<A theory, logical and all, but should cost ~100 bucks. buy a old CRT monitor for 20$
