most ebay, its a cold hard fact, and its pising me off more and more as i spend even more time in the high end trade forums trying to trade items, i see these lame ass ebayers paying 100k + 100/200++ ectos for mediocre weapons, JUST to get one over on the other guy thats bidding, they do that on one type of item that isnt even all that rare, then everyone see's that and starts to think they can ask the same amount of cash for that item, its just crazzy, the only reason i havnt openly accused MANY on this forum of buying their gold is from fear of being banned and loosing my trading reputation,

i have made a total of about 4 million gold in the 5 months i have played guildwars, but have never held more than 400k at one time, 5 months and that amount might seem like alot of cash but im sad and do nothing but play gw all day, everyday, thats 2000+ play hours total, but when im trading , whether buying or selling , im extremly carefull with my money and my bids because it was hardearned cash, so when i see these lamers just going up nad up and up with the ectos for stufff that isnt worth near that its a clear sign that they been using mummies credit card imo.

one of these guys who consistantly bids 100k + ectos for stuff i met ingame in faction near the begining, but now for some reason in recent thread were hes again bidding 100k + ectos for something, he tells ppl he hasnt got factions yet and hes just been farming in prophecies so he can save for perfect daggers for when his CE factions arrives, that was a blatant lie as i played vizinuh square mission with him, and i searched the forums and he never ever sells anything, but is always buying for insane prices, yet this guy has a good reputation on these forums, thats what annoys me most.

some ppl might say im just jelosue so i accuse ppl, wich is not the case, because i trade at the same lvl that they do, im just smart with my money and wont pay over the odds, it just makes me feel almost sick to my stumoach thinking of all the farming i do and time spent making money and knobs like that just put in a creditccard number and buy their gold :S !!

Making money is easy, as long as you don't care about fashion, or the latest "fad".

I got my b-day present yesterday, and sold it for 100K in about 2 minutes. I could care less about the mini pets, they do nothing for me in playing the game.

When IDS came out, I farmed about 6 of them, and sold all of them but one, which I kept. They sold for about 35K each.

I've sold a few different green items from SF and Tombs.

I've sold Superior Vigor and Absorption runes way back before the 55 monk was nerfed. Those sold on average for 65K each.

I've never played the market. I use items I've found, I've never purchased any item from another player ever.

And I'm not rich by any stretch. I have 15K armor on all of my characters (7 characters right now), good items all around, mostly greens, storm bows, etc.

I have about 220K in my storage. Not really sure what I'm going to do with it.

Key to making money if you're lazy is to get into whatever fads people are spending money on that's relatively easy to get, and do that as much as you can until the fad passes. Right now, it's B-day presents. A couple days ago, when Amber became available, I took all the Amber I had and sold it for 6K each. 100% profit there.

No one has to ebay for their cash. If people are doing so, they are just idiots.

[QUOTE=Crimson Ashwood]100k is a savage amount of cash really, considering what other materials are worth and craftable swords etc...

Things wouldn't often go over 100k because nobody would have 100k to spare because nobody could ACCESS such large amount of funds.

[QUOTE]

I can make 100k easily in a day farming this is with no other player interaction
I do not consider myself to be anywere near the best so I am very sure there would be alot of people who would have access to those funds with out ebay gold

Anyone else notice that people are buying things lately for amounts in excess of 100k +50 ectos? I mean, I've been playing the game for what I consider to be a long time. Just under 6 months, many hours, probably a little shy of 600. Consider myself to be intermediate to professional player and this kind of money is still very much out of my grasp.
The problem there is the time you've been playing. I've been playing this game since it was released in stores and I believe I may have reached the million mark if I add together the loot I've gathered from every character I have ever had. Although I never really farmed. I've done some just to keep up with the market but found it wasn't worth the time. Farming is repetitive and boring and only hurts the economy anyway so I rather not contribute. However back in the day when the game was first released the economy had flaws and people didn't take long exploiting these flaws. All I heard was how people had these good farming locations that would bring in 100k+ and hour. Since then anet has made it more and more difficult to farm as well as make changes to the drop rates to make it not worth the time to farm. Sorry to say it but you missed the boad but it's for the best. The most recent updates are to make items easier to find in the run of taking a character completely through the game. As a result prices have already begun to drop. A sign of this being the superior absorbtion that is now at a steady 15k or so. Big drop from 60k.

Quote:
Where to people get all the cash!? I don't believe for a SECOND that they're sitting in town buying and reselling things to make that kind of coin, nor do I think it's possible to "farm" for this kinda cash.
The farming doesn't bring in the amount of loot that it use to but they still farm areas that can give them rare skinned top end item. They then sell this to people who either bought they money off ebay or had it already from when farming made people rich alot more quickly.

Quote:
I like to browse eBay for GuildWars stuff to view the skins on items, and see how insane some things are priced. At the moment, eBay gold is about 74.95USD for 1000k, 3 weeks ago it was 38USD for 1000k.
The gold you can buy on ebay mostly comes from companies using sweatshop farmers or people running bot programs. This is a serious problem for anet since this is the primary cause of price inflation. Although individual repetitive farming does it's damage it doesn't compare to the damage the sweatshop and bot farmers cause. Anet has taken big steps to stop these people and I believe the higher prices at ebay is just a sign of success. See these people and companies make it their job to exploit these games making a real life profit off of selling in game merchandise. Since they can only farm a third of the gold they used to in any given amount of time they are force to up their prices on ebay just to maintain the amount of profit per time they got before.
Quote:
This indicates an influx of people buying. So, I'll have to assume the greater population of GuildWars players is eBaying it, then saying they "farmed" it. It's a shame really...
I agree to a point. Not the greater population of GW but rather the greater population of farmers in GW have switched to ebay now that farming is getting nerfed but continue to claim they are getting it from farming since if you admit to buying it then you admit to supporting a negetive cause. If people didn't buy then sweatshop farmers and bot users would go out of buiseness. Funny realy how they have such a negetive opinion on the sweatshops and bots repetitively farming but say that their petetive farming is doing good by increasing the supply and lowering prices (supposedly). Yet when repetitive farming was at its peak prior to anets updates prices of not only the highly sought after items but all items were insanely expensive. Now, after all the updates that have been made, the prices are an all time low (not include the economy resets). The rare skinned weapons are being sold for obsene amounts still but that is just because people are greedy and there are no merchants and traders to base a price off of. One thing I did notice is that people are being less and less successful at selling their rare items for such a high amounts.
Quote:
Because without eBay, things wouldn't sell for excess of 100k often, or possibly at all. Shame really. Just want a Gothic Sword with +5 energy mod for my pretty Necress...
Well with anets most recent farm related update. People have a much better chance at finding rare stuff for themselves without having to farm and area over and over. This means they will find the items they want or find items they can trade for the items they want without having to buy gold from ebay or continuously farm. So I say let them try and sell their stuff with outdated prices.

On the contrary, Ebaying gold is for adults who have jobs and the extra money to do so. Thus implying that they do indeed have a life and the people who farm 24/7 to get large amounts of money should perhaps take your solution.

I don't Ebay. Just opening your eyes a bit.

1. I don't buy ebay money.

2. Crunchy Flaming Hot Cheetos rule.

3. My parent's basement kicks arse.

People with no lives farm.

Losers with no time to farm buy ebay gold from the sweatshop bot farmers.

Meh, money doesn't mean that much to me now, it's just too easy to come by. Getting your birthday minipet pretty much guarantees an instant 100k, buying low and selling high is easy if you have the patience, salvaging and selling materials provides a steady income, and with the upcoming CE pet...

You can get perfect/near perfect items without a lot of money or farming like crazy, or buy some greens or collectors items cheap. Unless you want a very rare skin/fissure armor, there is never really a reason to HAVE TO HAVE 100k+.

kinda funny reading this because the average GW gamer has 15k to their name <proven stat> yet everytime a thread like this appears the "so-called" millionaires appear...saying that with the current market trend anyone who collected perfect items like fells ect are 50% poorer since these items sell for half the price they did a few weeks ago

likewise malice.
if i got a dollar for every time some idiot in a random district has tried to educate me on the ways of the guildwars economy, i'd be a rich man.
the fact of the matter is:
*just because you do not have 100k, does not mean noone does.

*just because you cant make 100k, doesnt mean anyone who has that or more is an ebayer (though there are many, sadly)

*just because you would not pay 100k for an item does not mean other people wouldnt pay millions for it.

*just because you've never seen something doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

*just because a friend of a friend of a friend saw something doesnt mean it does exist.

*just because item values have gone up/down siginificantly, doesnt mean it will remain so.

*just because someone has stuff/rank/titles you dont have, doesnt mean they've spent all their time accumulating it.

ive been called an elitist @$$hole more than once...but my elitist attitude does not exist because of anything i may or may not have/have done in GW, it exists as a defense mechanisms to the morons who think that they know everything. i can happily admit i dont know anything, in fact, in terms of item prices, right now i know rather little, because i've taken a break from trading (planned) so that i can develope my characters and simentaneously wait for the market to settle down. one can only know so much about the game and its mechanics, and there is absolutly no certainty ina game world, because at any moment it could change. the best anyone can hope to do is guess; and some people are better at guessing than others.

One good drop might make you a fortune, so a bit of luck can make a huge difference. Fortunately, the bottom line is you really don't need a ton of money except for vanity stuff. Especially now, when perfectly good weapons are available at crafters.

Where do people get all this cash? As several others have pointed out, ebay is one obvious source of gold. But as in real life, Guild Wars offers a wide variety of gold sources. Playing through the game in casual manner which most people do (going through missions and selling everything that drops) will furnish enough money for your basic needs - droknar's armor, some collectors/cheap green items, and such. But for those who actually FOCUS on making money, the possibilities are plentiful. Buying and selling for profit and having knowledge of prices made me a millionaire in less than four months of the release of prophecies. Then you have the 55 farmers, the old chest farmers, people who got lucky drops in FOW/UW, runners (10k per droks run, doing a couple a day will get you a 1000 platinum in no time), playing the market (I think we all knew 55 monk runes would drop in price with the release of factions, as we also also knew that the price of crafting materials of all sorts would go up). Steel Ingots were about 140 before the release of factions, and I bought about a million gold worth of them. They went up in price to ~300, so you can imagine the payout . Playing the game in the conventional manner (missions and questing) is an awful way to make gold, so if you are wondering how people amass so much wealth, its because they have a...different goal in playing. If you haven't made any effort to acquire vast sums of gold and happen to not have any, thats the issue right there.

i make all my money from troll soloing on my war got some golds there. or rune farming on him got a few superior vigors and superior absortions there but i have made a fortune buying and reselling mini pets i bought a mini siege turtle for 80k when they first came out and resold for 100k+25 ectos in under 2 mins and i let the other people offer to me. to make money is simple all you have to do si spend a lil time looking for someone selling something low and you know it is worth more, buy it and then go resell for higher best way to make cash if you have cash to start it.
