**shoulda called this SOLUTIONS TO SLOT LIMIT WITHOUT CHANGING CURRENT LIMIT
Let's keep the math out of this thread.

Thought this deserved a thread. Instead of complaining about the slot limitations let's come up with some possible solutions to it and hope ANET takes note.

Well if they aren't going to give us more slots than 2 give us the function to be able to change primary classes so I can experience the whole PvE experience with every class. Instead of building a character up and deleting to experience other builds. Just being able to change your 2ndary isn't helpful enough to experiencing the whole game. Especially when we have to keep one slot vacant for building whatever PvP guy we might need at the time. Anyway, that's my simple solution, keep the original plan at gaining 2 slots with the merge but let us change our primaries. Then we will have to be hoarding several suits of armor around for each time we change our primary.... Even this will throw a loop in the game. But as a PvE AND PvP player I would like to play every PRIMARY class thru whole game without deleting a character everytime I get to the end to start another.

Just came up with a brainstrom. Why not let us get better results from salvaging our armor. That's the heartbreaker when you nuke a character to try another class. Spending 20-30k on runes and building materials only to sell everything off to try new character and not re-couping anything (MAYBE get a rune back). They are catering to the peeps that have unlimited money that buy it on E-bay. Let's see something to help out the honest worker that wants to experience the whole game. I lost a character on this Factions preview because I wanted to be able to experience the skills I had unlocked in the PvP weekend. I swallowed hard and deleted a character I had spent over 20k to build up to get thru the game.

It's an "interesting" idea..but I'm not sure how it would work...are you saying that you would be able to take your main char (for example a mo/me who has finished the game..ascended etc) and that you could swap his/her primary..and suddenly be a N/me (who is ascended and an instant lvl 20?) I don't know if that's a good idea...would you know how to play the class properly?...there wouldn't be much of a learning curve...besdies...if I could swap primaries why would I bother to ever have another character after that point?...I wouldn't need to ever make one...

Well I was ranting and raving when I was on the 1st paragraph and realized that wouldn't work. But I believe that in the 2nd paragraph I made a much better suggestion.

Only problem I have with the slot limit is deleting a character and losing everything it took to supply him. I would never consider deleting one of my characters I have Citadel armor on. What about all those that spent 8k for black dye and armor and supplies? They want to try another class and have to make a slot and when they salvage everything and sell everything back runes, crafting materials, etc they lose EVERYTHING. Some over 100k on one character. So if they only made a better way to get some of that stuff back. Give us better salvage returns, get dyes and components and runes back or be able to sell armor to merchant.

Or... they can just start selling them. Like they can sell codes for extra slots. You enter the key on your acct and you get the slots. I'm sure there will be a market for it... They can also sell codes for items, whatever.

Let's hear some good solutions. Seems PvE players are affected ALOT more than PvP players with this slot limitation. Most PvP'rs have unlocked all the skills with faction points where I enjoy unlocking thru PvE and saving my faction for the hard to find items.

I'm not really sure where to go with it. If you make it so you get more from your salavaged items..that could be a good idea..but you're still gonna end up losing a lot of time..effort and materials. As for the pve/pvp..I don't really know about that one as I am a pve only person. But, from my understanding of it pvp chars are "disposable" mostly..they roll and reroll them to suit the current need of the team. Are you suggesting that a pve char should be just as "disposable" as a pvp char?...that would kind of defeat the purpose of pve/story etc...wouldn't it? I can't think of a soultion to the slot issue...really I can't I've tried...trust me. The only solution I have and have had for a long while now has already been mentioned. The ability to purchase individual extra slots. Sure you could always get a second account...but that's a major pain in the arse...trust me....due to the fact that you now have to unlock on 2 accounts. It would be mighty awesome if Anet allowed you to merge your 2 copies..I guess that could count as an idea...though probably won't go over well....mind you the merging of 2 accounts would give me all my chars in one space...but now I've screwed myself out of my 2nd storage bin...(which was part of the reason why the hubby and I got the 2nd account to begin with) hehehehe.

Have you actually *tried* to salvage runes out of armor? When they changed the salvage rates of runes a while back (so they *always* salvage 100% of the time out of npc armor and can be salvaged out of collector armor), I was getting about an 80% success rate.

Not suggesting that at all. Just suggesting that it is absurd spending a ton of hard earned money on a character only to lose it just to try another character. I want to experience EVERY primary class in all aspects and have been doing so slowly but everytime I try a new class I lose thousands of gold in investments. I would like a little better return on that money instead of getting 5 steel back from a 15k piece of armor with a black dye and a sup rune of absorption. That SINGLE piece of armor would cost 15k+8k+100k. And to salvage it you get back literally NOTHING. Wow, spend 123k and get back maybe 10 steel if your lucky. ABSURD.

Anet is giving you 8 more slots (technically) when you merge for a total of 12 slots. (assuming a slot is a possible playthrough of the game without deleting)

4 slots with access to prophecies.
same 4 slots have access to factions.
2 bonus slots with access to prophecies
same 2 bonus slots with access to factions

thats 12 slots.

Therefore there is no problem...so there are no solutions to come up with.

Since you apparently aren't aware I took this from sticky 4 you.

**-Two additional character slot for Factions release (confirmed.)

Gaile Gray: Consider GW one game, and Factions the other, as they are. Consider them both halves of a great whole. If you have GW, you have GW content only, and 4 slots. If you have Factions, you have Factions content only. If you have both, linked, you have 6 slots, with access for all_6_slots to BOTH games. You can keep them seperate, but linking is better, because you have 6 with twice the content. As opposted to four with 1/2 the content each. If it makes sense to you, thank you. I have to admit, I took 10 minutes of Mike O'Brien's time to learn it. I didn't understand the 6 x 100% is greater than 4 x 50%, you see?***

Ill edit my post with more detail...but I was correct.

But still...With everyone so mad...i guess buying extra slots (or allowing an extra factions merge for 4 extra factions slots and an extra prophecies for 4 extra prophecies slots [or both for 4 extra good slots]) would be a good idea and a way to make more money.

I guess I messed up the other solution already in place. Buy 2 copies

Still doesnt solve the problem. It isnt twelve slots because i cant build 12 seperate characters, but i can build 6 and move them between chapters. 6 is not equal to 8 professions

actually, i've a better idea...

how about if they'll just enable us to link together as many accounts as we have keys?

i.e.
if n = number of Prophesy keys you have
m = number of Faction keys you have

Linking them all together will get you
# character slots = 4n + 2m

I would settle for that even if the entire account only has 16 Xunlai storage slots.

Scroll up....I already suggested that ....(minus the n m part)

I agree with that however I'm sure that ArenaNet is probably hoping that everyone buys a second copy of each chapter if they want more character slots.

I would love it if I could simply merge my two prophecies accounts together and just buy one copy of factions, thus giving me 4+2+2 slots. I can deal with losing two characters for the interim.

With the next chapter, we'll have another two slots anyhow.

If you want to have all primary class, why don't you buy another set of GW?

You're misinformed. They're only giving you two more when you merge, for a total of 6.

We already mentioned the 2nd account purchase option (which I myself have done)....though the problem with that (as I mentioned above) is that now you have to unlock every rune and skill on 2x the accounts...it becomes quite time consuming...not to mention the fact that unless you reg edit you can't run 2 copies at the same time, unless you are using more than 1 computer. So assuming you don't reg edit (to allow for both copies to run at the same time on the same computer)and only have 1 computer... you may have a weapon or a rune that would be perfect for one of your chars only they happen to be on your other copy of gw.. you could go the friend route...but I don't know about that...could get ugly. Yes there are options..yes a 2nd account is one of those options but it's a pain....both my husband and I play a fair ammount...and spliting 4 chars between the 2 of us was a headache...hence the 2nd account. The suggestion was to be able to merge multiple copies of the same game together to make it easier. OR just give us the option of adding more characters (at a cost ..hell I dont care if they are $20 each) just let me have them all in one place..all neat and tidy.
Other than those 2 ideas I can't think of any.
And yes, before anybody says it...maybe anet doesn't want to make it easier and give us the ability to have 2x the chars on one account and that all the time and effort is the price you must pay for having multiple copies of the game.
