Gold item drops - idea.

OK, a simple idea really. When a Gold/Rare item drops for a member of the party, i think it would be really nice to have a sound play and stars/lights encircle the member who it's assigned to.
It would make that rare occasion extra special and memorable.

In a different online game i played, the same sort of thing happened when you got a drop worth over a certain value and a message popped up for the ENTIRE community to see.

" X has killed a creature Y and found loot worth Z "

It was a great moment to be proud of, take a screenshot of the event and answer the dozens of PM's from friends to tell them what you got in the loot.

Perhaps ArenaNet could extend the idea further aswell. Instead of having just rare drops...why not have multiple high-end/rare drops?
You kill a mob and several weapons cascade down with the total amount in base value over 1.5k for example.
Perhaps Anet could implement an announcement system for when people find these rare/amazing drops.

I sure hope mega drops and/or magical lights/sounds with an announcement system gets applied. It would be so exciting.

Anyway, i leave it at that.

Considering the amount of rare drops there are it would probably flood the chats if announcements were made every time. I like the idea of a sound just because it makes the person who it is for notice (like the sound that now happens when someone whispers you) so they don't miss picking it up if it fell behind them, but the lights or stars sound a bit tacky in my opinion.

I think it is a good idea, and would be interesting, but also, it would flood the chat rooms and be VERY time intensive to the creators. I just don't think luxuries like that will occur soon.

Perhaps it could be broadcast just within your team, or maybe to your guild also, rather than globally.

im sooo pissed at wut ANET is doing they piss off alot of people...this is a game that involves a big financial problem for many players and when they finnaly find a spot that they can profit from they whack in the face with a nerf bat its horrible if this shit continues this game is gonna be WHACKED! Broadcast server wide would be bad I think, but broadcast guild-wide and perhaps among your friends list would be cool. It would also be super cool if (I think this is what you meant) there was an "ultimate-rare" where every person in the party would get a gold drop at once! THIS would be a true moment of celebration. When you get a gold drop, it's exciting and a few members of your party are curious what it is. But if everyone gets a gold??? It's time for a communal break to ID items, show them off to each other, perhaps trade them around (I'll give you the un-id'd sword for the un-id'd staff), bragging to each other... it's like christmas, or everyone's birthday all at once! That'd be awesome!

Beat me to it DrSlug, but that would be neat. It reminds me of going into a Magic the Gathering Booster Draft tournament when they released a new set. I'll add a bit to this: make it extremely rare, like winning the lottery in real life and have it do a guild-wide and party wide broadcast, so that way everyone in the party will be sure to say "WTF Hells Yes!" and all of your guildmates and their guildmates will actually believe you when you tell them about it. In addition to this, they would most definitely be no better than the regular gold items but it would be neat if they had ornamental adornments that add to the weapons value, such as the uniques looked in Diablo2 for instance. It would be cool to have something like that that was not merely a blue collector's item.
I could go on but I would digress to the point of mad ravings.

Mmm...maybe they could play the National Anthem and have fireworks shoot off when you level up too. Just a thought...

No. If you got a gold item, good for you, no one cares. Go salvage the rune or sell it or whatever you're going to do with it and shut up.

Wow, my kind of forgiving. Seriously though; who gives a rodent's posterior that you got a gold item. It says "A Rare Dolyak Cladding" in the text in the instance; that's enough. Only an egoist thinks that the world gives a poop.

Sound like a good idea, but lately i'm been getting lucky with good drops (mostly purple and blue, no gold yet) I'm not sure that i want to alert everyone what kind of drops I'm been getting especially if the message would also contain my location of the drops. Which would mean that mass of people would go to that location and farm for good drops just like i did.
