Villany of Gallath (or something like that)

Can anyone tell me where I find the location for this quest. It never appears on the map when you click on the Quest. No matter were you do it from. I tried at Gates of Kryta or d'Allesio but to no avail. Where is the Wizard's tower? I was told SW of Gates of Kryta, but can't find a way there. Has anyone completed this quest yet? Please tell me where I begin in locating the Wizard's Tower.

Try exitting Bergen Hot Springs and see if it shows up on your map then. I would empty your inventory as much as possible and put on your most comfortable boots, it's quite a hike!

jdwoody is right, Bergen Hot Springs is the best leaving place (unless you already have Temple of Ages on your map, in which case, leave from there). It sounds like you may not have either of those yet, though, so I'll explain a bit, and then refer you to this map. (Choose the Kryta map--props to MOOMANiBE).

From Lion's Arch or D'Alessio Seaboard, head out and North towards the beaches. Just before you hit the Ascalon Settlement out in North Kryta Province, hang a left (West) and pass into the Nebo Terrace explorable area. Go as directly south as you can here and you'll hit Bergen Hot Springs (good to have on your map).

From Bergen, head West as much as you can and you'll pass into the Cursed Lands soon. Pretty small area, just keep heading West until you hit the Black Curtain area. You can follow the main road (pretty easy to see) which will take you West, then South, then loop back to the Southeast where it connects to Kessex Peak. Or you can just cut through the swamps, but they poison you so stay out of the muck as much as you can.

Once you hit the Black Curtain, the green arrow should be on your map, so follow it South. Once you hit Kessex Peak just keep following the arrow, it will take you to the southern-most part of the area, on the eastern edge. There you'll find your nemesis: Galrath. Slay him. Unless you like tedium, map back to Lion's Arch to collect your reward.

Also, bookmark the thread referenced above. You'll be wanting MOOMANiBE's maps more than once probably...

I haven't done this quest yet, but it's in my log. From what I hear it's almost as hated as Althea's Ashes.

Dude, Althaea's Ashes was cake compared to this one. The end of Ashes is harder, but it just doesn't compare to the epic length journey to get to the end of this mission. Especially if you don't know any better and don't leave from a closer locale like Bergen or the ToA

...and you get 500 experience and a crappy item. Trust me, it is not worth it unless you just want to be able to say you did it. You should be awarded 2000 experience just for walking that far. Also, you will find the undertaking incredibly frustrating if you are in an impatient group. I tried in two different groups, once actually reaching Galrath and taking him down to 50% (myself and a warrior, everyone else was dead) before expiring.

omg this is one of the hardest quests i've done and its only worth 500 exp. I just finished it yesterday and boy is it toooough..

You need to go south of the cursed lands and enter kessex peaks where you go for a while, fighting a whole slew of trolls and minotaurs on the way. Then you get to where the tower is near and you fight some easy bandits but you go a little further and you have to fight the toughest lv.20's and 1 boss I've ever fought. Compared to Galrath and his lv.11 bandits, this = a lot harder. We all died at least twice during this batttle. Anyway, HAVE FUN!

... and this is a good place to point out:

Your assigned task is to kill Gal. Not any priests or alcodytes or anything else, really. Sure, you can. Maybe. You can also just snipe or AoE him on his ridge and make him come to you, or blaze at him in a suicide dash past the priests... your job, again, is to kill Galrath. That's it. When he falls, pop back via map.

Another tactic (my preferred) is to go to TotA and catch a bunch of angry underworlders who've never bothered to wrap that one up either. You can waltz over and waste everything along the way in give or take 30 minutes.

From the Temple, you have to wind through all of Black Curtain until you end up almost due south on the opposite side of that area. I do this so I can have some mobs to slaughter to recover some of the death penalty I am going to incur around the Galrath area.

Once you get past the minotaurs, there is an open field in front of Galrath's castle. There are 2 approaches to take. The first is to kill everything in front of Galrath's castle. This is very difficult to do without taking multiple deaths. The second approach, which is what I did to complete the quest itself, is to kill off enough of the stuff around the castle area to give me a chance to sneak up around them and up to the Galrath area itself. Once you're past the level 20 swarming mob area, you're presented with only level 11 bandits around the Galrath area. These were easy to kill off. After all the bandits were dead, I swooped in and killed Galrath, which gave me the quest update.

Given that Galrath was dead, I took the additional challenge of killing off all of the stuff in front of his castle. With level 15 henchmen and myself being a level 20 Ra/Mo, it was an extremely large challenge. The first step was to kill off the healers around the hill (the shepherds.) I managed to take out 2 shepherds and 5 rangers before events turned and I got overwhelmed. Every fight typically has 8 mobs that come after you, with adds due to what the mobs cast and where you have to fight because of their casts. They typically cripple you first thing, so you can't move. That leaves your henchmen in a position where they can't retreat too far before getting killed. I had to fight them on the hill the majority of the time, and that opened up the possibility of 8 additional mob adds to every fight.

When I killed the final boss on that hill, all of my henchmen were at their -60% death penalty and I was at -29%. The final boss was the last mob I had to kill to clear the zone.

Like I said, this is definitely the hardest quest prior to the ascension quests. Even some of the ascension quests are easier than this. It takes quite a bit of time to do. I believe it took me a grand total of 3.5 hours to get there and clear everything, but it was my 3rd attempt at it, so I'd learned a lot from the first two attempts. I figure I spent a total of 8 hours on this quest alone. The first attempt wasn't really an attempt as much as it was a scouting mission. By the time we got to the minotaurs, we were already at -30% penalty. The 2nd attempt was sort of another scouting mission with a friend and we'd already incurred a penalty there as well.

You can actually run past the minotaurs since they have no notable range attacks and will chase you up to the tower and start fighting all the little bastards up there. in the end only a couple are left. I think this is the way it was meant to be done. Much easier and all you have to do is watch.

why is this quest so hard? i skipped this quest awhile bak when i just arrived in L.A.. im like lvl 20 now... i left last time from temple of ages to attemp to do the quest with some lvl 20's and 17+'s... surely this is not worth 500 exp.. but do you wonder if there is more to this quest than the 500 exp? does the guy who give u a reward give u like another quest?

God I remember this quest, I will admit, it wasn't insanely difficult, it's just that I left from D'Allesio Seaboard, and that was one HELL of a walk. I had absolutely no idea where I was going, and I got there with a crappy pick up group (because they knew where it was). We got to the end part alright, but all of the bastards near the end killed us (except one guy) because the of STUPID rangers in our team, we had to die/rez/kill, repeat, just to get past them, and then it turned out they ALL died except me and the monk, me being a necro/mesmer didn't have the most awesome strength at that point, and I had to basically kill the end guy by myself. Thankfully by that point there were loads of bodies around.

isnt it kind of stupid to get this quest at Lions Arch? the destinaton is nowhere nearby

It's wise to go to ToTA first regardless of how many hencies - if you walked/fought all that way....you better be smart enough to hit the nearest mappoint so you can come back the easy way and do missions/quests from there!!!
Otherwise you deserved to trek all that way for a measley 500exp, crappy item and the frustration with getting whacked several times along the way.....or watching Alesia pull her best TANK impression!!!
