Anets Stance On Macros

Generally all third-party unlicensed programs are a no-no. Unless Anet were to implement macros directly into the game engine itself, you can expect them to be pretty strict on their policy.

Thanks for the login tip, being useless at that sort of thing it was a great help.

Just an addition to it can it be used to enter the user name as well as I have 3 accounts.

I was thinking about getting that keyboard [my overly-expensive super sleek LED backlit keyboard's LED's just went out, +1/4 of them don't light up properly because of spilled soy sauce ^^;;], would the macros it could make violate anet's bot/macro detection system?

exactly how does writing 3 macros, one for logging me into a different account with the touch of 3 buttons give me an unfair advantage?

or a macro which says /dance on touch. oh noes!

of course they can be abused , but anyone who would abuse them, will abuse them anyway


a macro is not by definition an unfair advantage, coming back to the kitchen knife, if a knife by nature a leathal weapon? depends how you use it

The answer to that question is abundantly clear in the EULA. Any outside program/macro used to effect in game action is a violation and can lead to permanent removal of the account. They do not leave room for "degrees" of violation in this regard, and I highly doubt would look to see if you were only using a dance macro rather than a farm macro.

If pushing the buttons to dance or login is enough of an inconvenience for people that they would risk losing their entire account, god help the world.

Yeah, Id like an official respond on that, because Im using an Intellimouse 1.1A, instead of my(prgrammable key'd) Kensington Pro Pilot.

I use a mouse-like device to set up certain binds for chat. I have all the /emotes bound to this device & a cpl of phrases. I do not use it to gain a unfair advantage over others or to manipulate the game in a nefarious manner for my own financial gain.

This said tho... I can see the potential for abuse is high with such a device. I understand ANet's stance. While I am responsible with such a device, others may not be.

click the shortcut which takes me all the way to the character select, click the character i want and i am in the game.

what is so bad about that?

I think thats using the shortcut (Your drive letter):\(Your GW folder)\Gw.exe -"Your password" Correct me if Im wrong on that, but that isnt really a macro, a macro is used to perform actions and/or display text in chat(not an "end-all" definition, but servicable). Like if you press 1 button, and it targets the nearest enemy, casts a particular spell or attack at them, then calls for help in chat.

There is a big difference between modifying your executable to include your password, and utilizing a macro serverside once you are connected. Gorebrex hit it right on the head.

I dunno if it's just my paranoia, but that seems highly insecure.

Just bought a Logitech G15 keyboard. It allows the use of 54 macros via its "G" keys. I have two accounts and with the push of one button I can launch GW and log-on, so no need to re-type my e-mail address every time. I also use it to cast my enchants for my farming characters as well. I like the idea of using simple macros just to call out what build I'm using at the time to my teammates.

The keyboard does not let me record true macros, only a series of keystrokes.

EDIT: I have two accounts = two different e-mail addresses
