What's Up with ECTO Price Plunge?

I saw an interview with Gaile Gray awhile back. A question about farming was raised and why Anet seemed to be taking a negative stance on it, the response was based on their information only about 10% of the population on Guild Wars had over 25k, and only 25% had over 10k, etc..

Now undoubtably this has changed in recent months, but really even if the price drops Fissure Armor isn't going be as common as Gladiator...I mean even though the price of fissure is steadily declining I don't know that there's "alot" more people that will be able to buy it. More likely than not the reason for the price drop could possibly be that the people who once hoarded the ectos already have their fissure armor, and just hold onto the ectos they have, so the demand has decreased thus making it a buyers market.

I think the price drop is due to two things: ecto drops in the Tombs and speculation about a decrease in price with the release of Chapter 2. The impact of both will decrease in the short-term I think, as people stop farming Tombs so much and Chapter 2 is on their minds less.

As soon as another event occurs, I expect it to drop again though.

I too remember the days of old when FoW armour was for the skilled players, and yes it is sad to see nubs with it. But it is not their fault that people over farm. I probably am one of the worst for over farming, as soon as we have favour i'm in the UW with a monk [or a necro depending on what im playing as] farming constantly until we lose favour-and when we do i farm somewhere else to get money for Ecto. But hey if I have a build that gets me the purple globs i desire why shouldn't i use it? Ok so some of the people who own FoW armour are [lets be honests] t*ts, but it's their choice to buy it whether they bought money off ebay or earnt th money. I am upset by this, but as I am in the process of getting FoW myself [99ecto to go] i am happy with the price drop =D

I've also noticed that black dye is cheaper then I have seen if for a very long time, might be related to this 'issue'. I think a drop worth around 7K is a nice one for me, I dont have or want FoW armor so I sell ecto straight away.

I have heard that Ecto and Shards will still be used in the next chapter for the new stuff? Any news or way to gauge that? I dont think the designers would just make everything useless? And why am I seeing shards in high demand today.. but not ectos?

Well I played for months doing FOW before I discovered Greens and within the first week of g ORO farming I found Mals Shield twice... so the Holy Gaile blessed me or needs to consider why everyone is so poor.. 2 Malinons shield = 150K.

I think the drop rates of ectos are because of the china farmers. IMO I think that they control the ectos' economy. I mean I see them buy/trade/scam ectos.

the only reason why ectos are cheap is because the new UW requires no favor and no money. if they stop the ecto drop in the tombs Uw i think ecto would go back.

I don't know if ecto drops are all that common in new Tombs. Sunday(1/22) night EST I went in with 8 people, and only 2 people got ectos. But I suppose even those few drops are adding a lot to the overall amount with as many groups as are going in there in addition to continue farming of the original UW. (if the original UW is still up? lol I never bothered to look)

That's not going to happen before Chapter 2 - Gaile said that the current set-up is going to stay for now.

Highest amount of ectos I've seen in a single mission was 3 in an 8 man party, I've never gone solo farming in the 'old' UW but I imagine that you'd get more there then in the new UW.

Maybe someone who has experience farming UW solo can tell us how many drop on average but I imagine it might well be more then 3 and doesnt take 2-3 hours.

What comes to Ectos - with my luck I have so far aquired 1 (yes... one) Ecto. And that was after a week of active UW'ing (more than 8hrs a day, over 60hrs a week). And that's it... never since have I gotten any, not in UW or the new Tombs.
That makes me wonder how much time do some people spend in UW to get the 100+ Ectos for their armor.

I just don't understand how people can accumulate so much money in general. My primary Character is a Ranger, and you cant really do anything except go into trap groups (Which I see very rarely anyways). My warrior I made later on was created to farm griffons but when he got to Augry, BOOM, nerfed.(shouldnt have deleted my monk )

The most gold I have every seen with me at one time was 40k, and slowly it was sapped away.

I have Droks armour (Druids) dyed green, a collectors long and short bow(with sub-par mods).

I never even tried to do a UW run till the new one came out and I have 2 ectos and 2 crappy greens(victos maul and koles gauntlet) after 10 runs through. (But trapping rangers barely lasted the weekend before they became shunned)

but still, maybe getting anything better in this game is more of a reality now.

Its called cheating by purchasing gold offline... I know for a FACT that there are several accounts that deserve to get wiped for doing this... But as long as they do it those companies keep ruining the game for everyone else... oh well This is why I have always avoided MMOs in general... Its just with GW being a no subscription system It was worth the pain in the butt dealing with them to play the game on occasion... Its just a shame people don't see the damage those types of operations are doing to the game... It would not be hard to get rich individually if anet didn't have to nerf many areas to all get out because of them... Now yea... its harder to get enough money for elite items.. so I don't worry about that stuff anymore... I play the game just as well with a perfect purple as I do with a elite green. If I get a green thats useful great. If I cant use it and someone in my guild can. its theirs.. but sell it. Prob not till a good auction system is created... Although gurus auction web-page is prob the best I have seen anywhere so far. kudos to them for that...

I think it's more.. the rich no longer have to worry about being needier..so they can afford to sit on their item for longer periods of time, hold out for the prices that they want. Still no excuse to gouge.. I know I don't want to be stuck with worthless products when the market dries up.. (if)....

But I will say one thing, I give away a lot of free stuff to new players, and not junk either, just because I can afford to.. so I guess that is not being greedy a bit.

When people stop buying and invest, the prices drop... Thats all there is to it... there are many reasons for this... faster money elsewhere, people are saving for chapter 2... Gems are the new investment item. Everybody does there own thing for their own reason, but i honestly see the price going very low come chapter 2....

I've seen 12 ecot drop on the one UW trip. However I've found the average to be around 5 or 6 regardless of party size (this is assuming you clear the entire UW).

As for the new UW, I've never seen more than 1 ecto drop on the one trip, and sometimes not even that.

I have only farmed uw a few times yet have massive numbers of ectos. The answer to your question is my wealth has not been made from uw farming but from other methods which are far more profitable.

It's going to be so funny if theres a seperate storage agency in the new continent(I HAVE 1000K AND 300 SAPPHIRES AND RUBIES IN MY STORAGE WHY CANT I SEE THEM? Oh wait its not a Xunlai Agent...).
