What's Up with ECTO Price Plunge?

Its like a stock market , from what im seeing. So we better start investing.

30 minutes after my last post (just above), ecto has risen to 8.5k. So it's rubies 7.5, sapphires 8 and ecto 8.5k. I'm starting to wonder...has ecto gone up again after the 'record lows' yesterday because some rich people thought that would be the low point, and bought a load, thinking the price would go back up as a sort of brief counter-wave to the panic? Maybe even, rich guys see the price crash ahead and are throwing money in to help?

EDIT: latest news (after a few minutes), ectos 8.5k, rubies 7.5, sapphires have just gone back down to 7.5.

I was wondering about this too. I don't think that there will be lots of new crafting materials, as it wouldn't make sense. For example, what could replace iron ingots for a warrior's armour? Or cloth for a monk's? It may well be that ectos and shards do not have a use at all for the new armour, especially if there is no new FoW kit. However I have a feeling that certainly the common items will still be kept as they have a generic use, if not the rare ones. Though I am hoarding leather squares and steel ingots just in case

Not true, everytime I get rich, I give all my $ away for free, or for little. To see if I'll be able to get back to the number of money I had. Gaveaway 60k to random person yesterday.

The game will always feature FoW armor, 15K tormentors, yada yada yada. The crafting materials, costs, etc won't change, it will always be 15K for Grotto armor, and FoW armor will need shards, etc, for example. When Factions does come out, this will not change. Factions may introduce new armors for the rich and (not) famous, but the original chapter one stuff won't go away. Might become cheaper in the long run, but it won't be replaced.

As far as the price fluctuations of globs, I'm sure it's simply people speculating on the market, or finally deciding to spend the money for the crafting items since they are relatively cheap - at least cheap compared to a month ago.

Haven't got much left, gave away pretty much all I had yesterday. If I do get some quick cash I'llwhisper you. I'm quitting gw soon though, so I doubt I'll be wanting to generate quick income to giveaway.

Can this thread be devoted to price bulletins, it might help track exactly when the crash happens Oh yes, it will happen. I reckon it would probably be triggered by someone or a few people selling a load of ectoes to the trader, maybe even deliberately for a laugh. The price will then go down by a fairly significant amount, and suddenly the panic selling will begin, resulting in competition and then more people selling to the trader, and the price will crash, it would probably even happen if a load of rich people are trying to help by pouring 'some' of their money into buying ectoes. Just me speculating though, there may be some restabilisation and people will stop selling ectoes so much after the initial phase of 'I can't keep these any longer' selling.

By the way, in the last few minutes, ecto went from 8.5 down to 8.0, then back up again to 8.5, and just now has gone back down to 8.0.

The fact that ecto prices are hovering around 8k makes me think that a large number of people who have money and want FoW armor without hunting for the materials themselves are considering that to be a fair price to pay. Probably won't drop from there for a while.

What I find interesting is that the Monstrous items haven't gone up in price at all. I expected them to get speculated just like Rubies and Sapphires.

I was thinking that myself. I personally think that the ritualist might need some Monster parts. Maybe even a new ranger and warrior armor. I don't think they will be part of a FoW style set, at least not in great number, but maybe in the way you need fur squares, bolts of damask, and such.

the Monstrous Eye is at 1,700 or something - isn't that more than it used to be? Or was it always so expensive...speaking of which, where exactly do you get Monstrous Eye/Claw drops from?

Just unloaded 40 of my ecto for 7k each. Urgh. Couldn't take the price plummeting. I'm not waiting until C2 either to find out if Ecto will go back up (Rit and Sin Fissure).
Oh well, until the economy evens up, I'll be glad to sit on my 1 million in the storage. No Rare Material speculation for me, I'm not cut out for that kind of stuff

People can now reasonably get ectos with a balanced pickup team in the black hole. Before if you wanted ectos you had to get into a specialized smite farming team. Now finding ectos is possible for the general populace. I think you'll see ectos start to mirror shards in price because of it, though priced a bit higher since some armors only require ectos not shards.

When I did Tombs last night with an 8 man team a total of 3 Ectos dropped and one person got 2 of those. If this is typical, I don't think the market will be flooded. I can see prices dropping a little, but I don't think they'll dip down to the 3k mark.

Has anyone ever stood by grenth when we have favor and watched millions of party-less monks go into UW? thats a hint right there why ecto prices have dropped. But its not just ecto.. The only person that will buy anything from anyone anymore is the merchant, everyone is selling and no one is buying. Why? Because there are so many ways to go about making money and farming items that have been tweaked and perfected to be extremely effortless and naturally... people abuse the crap out of it causing the twin tower effect on the market.

Sure, everyone is saving up their G's for chapter 2 but it will be no different. I give Ch2 about a month before everyone has found a way to farm a new area easily to make a ridiculous ammount of money or get a lot of the unique item in that area avoiding all the challenges/obsticles that Anet has placed in your way like a cake walk, and then what? that new chapter 2 armor that you have been saving up your money for so long to get is obtainable in a bout a days worth of farming

Sold an ecto from Tombs to the trader for 6k this morning... if prices keep dropping I may be tempted enough to get one for myself (not right now though, a full suit still costs close to a million gold).

Since the new UW is here to stay most likely, the economy with FoW and ectos is staying messed up. Although we sure don't want the new UW to go away, if I knew it was going away, I'd stock up on cheap ectos now, so when it's gone, prices skyrocket again. Did a new UW run with my guild this morning, we won, I got the jokey ogre slaying knife, but in total like one ecto dropped...but most likely that's just bad luck.
