What's Up with ECTO Price Plunge?

Price will go back up imo because yes, ppl want the next chapters new armor - if there be a new set. But at the same time, alot less people will farm UW and new UW because they are gonna be busy farming elsewhere or doing missions/quests in the new area's. So the price should rise again. Plus Anet might nerf ecto drops if they want to keep FoW armor so not everyone is running round with it.

Took me a while to get mine, and yes i am proud of it so I would be a bit cheesed if my 1.5 mill armor went down to 100 - 200k set. So i have to say personally I hope it stays high tbh.

ecto goes down rubies + sapphires go up? Hint.

Back in the old days(before the AoE update, that messed up the invinci monks), i have to say it was a little easier to own FoW armor in the honest way and not by eBAying the gold. Now days....i dunno, cant comment on that.

What do you expect? Ecto can now drops in a free area. If it stays like that there will be a permanent loss in value. I think it will stay around the 8 k mark instead of 12 k.

I think we are all jumping the gun here. The new game has no official release date yet, just Spring 2006. This little event is just a teaser to get us all hot and bothered... and to help pre-orders. They'll use this to gauge how many copies they think they need to make in order to cover demand and not waste money. How this effects us right now is the ecto price drop. Sure it's easier to get, but only by those capable of getting it. Think about how many people you've come across in the game so far who you would never invite into a group again, lol. No, the event will pass, we'll all settle into the wait... and start craving the same things we were craving before our senses were teased. Prices will bounce back a little as people can't wait for the update and start looking for ectos from the very same people who were getting them before. Sure it won't be up as high... but it won't stay this low either.
Course... I could be wrong... lol... I really don't care... heh.

I could not care less about ectos falling in price all it means in more fow armor sets for me I dumped my ectos a few days before massive price drops as I kind of felt they would be getting lower and lower in price as chapter 2 nears.

My only problem I have with the price drops is people are trying to sell them for what the trader does or in some cases more than the trader. This really really annoys me as it seems people are unwilling to accept their ectos are not worth what they used to be.

An example of this is: -
Me: WTB: 75 Ectos pm price
Random Idiot: 7.5k each sound ok?
Me: No, they are 7k at trader
Random Idiot: Ok, then 7k each

Just think about it like this; Ectos part of the word ectoplasm which is some fantasy term for ghostlike/dead things essence. The new armor may not be formed of the same substance and if I were programming a NEW game I certainly wouldn't use the same resources either. Especially if I wanted a robust economy (and to read peoples whines cause they can't affor it haha)

I also might use "some" resources from the origional chapter for a mid level type of armor and then create all NEW RESOURCES for the next ELITE type armor for my 2nd chapter. Now we have two drives in the 2nd chapter, a mid level armor and a million dollar baby type armor.

Then I would make some of the mid level armor look better than the million dollar baby armor (just for the whines of his 250k armor looks better than my million dollar baby armor whaaaaaaa, and I spent good real life $$ on ebay for this stuff whaaaaaa) ahahahaha

One must program the "greed" elements into mmorpgs or even corpgs as this. There must be something that "some" can get and others cannot else there's no real reason to have an economy in the first place. It would be too socialistic if everyone were "equal". GREED and VANITY are the driving forces behind the economy of Guild Wars PVE game. One has, 10,000 others want, thus because one has and 10,000 others want the 10,000 will relentlessly strive, or WHINE to get it. haha But, it's there, has always been there in every mmorpg I've ever played and though they title this a corpg, the elements of mmorpgs are still within it.

When you can break your needs for greed and vanity you can sit back like I do and just laugh at it all. It's quite funny how so many take a silly game so seriously like their lives depended on it. And if Mutt don't have the same as Jeff then Mutt is gonna whine about it. (rolls on floor laughing)

Yeah, they're probably adding new materials. Anet probably wants to totally change everything. I remember when FoW armor only was allowed to those who had over 1.4 mil . They didn't have enough space for their money alone .

I think it's a little bit of a toss up wether they add new materials. Personally I think they will, but think about two things.
On the no side... This game has gods common to all cultures. Balthazar is Balthazar in Cantha too. So from a story developer's stand point, the gods would share the same realms that they had in Ascalon and Kryta. People sailed to the Crystal Desert to ascend long ago, I doubt the gods changed the Underworld to accommodate their sensibilities.
On the yes side, and the more likely... people who have the game would want to see new stuff, and people who are buying that one first wouldn't know any better. And the thing that will make the most sense... they will put certain things in the game that will require you two travel between BOTH games to build. That way, people who don't have both games will want to buy the other.
And as far as the arguement goes on greed and vanity, I don't believe ANET actually cares. They have said it multiple times now that the game is skill based. They have a level 20 cap because they want you to rise above the others based on your accomplishments. So I believe FoW armor was just put in for a) something to do after you get bored, and b) a cash sink to level out the high ender's money. Think about the fact that there is still little variation in the way we all look. If vanity was important to the developers at all, the would just put in more skins for armor. The skins can't be large files. It would take them no real effort to map a new skin onto the skeletons that already exist.
I think ectos will bounce back a little, but won't be trully restored unless they plan on some cross game pollination, if you will.

if rubies/saphires aren't used for the $$$ armor in chapter two...im gonna have a pretty nice laugh at the people who bought my precious gems for 5-7k each ^_^

Since I really never got into ecto collecting and I don't really feel like getting any rubies and sapphires, I'm hoping (amusement-wise) for a big *BANG...OUCH!*, either when it is announced rubies and sapphires won't be for armour (or for jewellery/in town clothes for that matter), or when the game comes and people realise it for themselves. Still, I guess if you wanted to and had the money you could buy yourself a reasonable number of rubies and sapphires, but not too much. A reasonable amount. This would mean if they did have a use for your character's looks, you would have a head start and had bought them when they were cheaper. Or you could try to get ahead on info and quickly sell them for a good amount before the price crash kicks in, as everyone becomes informed of what you got informed of an hour or so earlier
But then, I think its about 75/100 that people's anticipations about rubies and sapphires are true, and 25/100 that they aren't.
Whatever, it's all quite exciting - I could imagine Tyrian newspaper headlines, 'Panic selling of ectos as anticipation of coming ruby and sapphire armour value rises' Dudladudladun. 'Hundreds of collectors distraught on Lions Arch streets as ectoplasms soar off the market'. The great depression. And then, the second depression 'Rubies and sapphires will not have armour value, say officials in Lions Arch', 'Prices of rubies and sapphires drop by over a half in just two hours', 'Thousands go on riot in Lions Arch as rubies and sapphires are thrown away by merchants', 'Rubies and sapphires to be used in Guild Hall upgrade purchases', 'Another wave of ruby and sapphire purchasing', 'A look back at the the economic depressions of recent months, special report by Magi Malaquire', 'Dragon Dust - the next armour essence','Thousands stock up on Glittering Dust after announcements that new Dragon Dust will be made from it', 'Glittering Dust price reaches 10,000 gold a pile'...uhm...that will be it for creativity.

I could swear I saw sapphires at 9k at the trader this morning, rubies at 8.5k, and ectos at 7.5k. Now they're in that order, 7.5, 7.5 and 8.(picture above). Can anyone from the European servers back me up on this or was that my eyes playing tricks on me? And if its true...does this mean people are starting to sell their rubies and sapphires for profit, and that their fall in price gave ectos a nudge up or something? Feel free to slap me if what I thought I saw was not what it was at all.

EDIT: Ok just after I posted that I looked back on the game, and sapphires have just gone up to 8k in that short amount of time.
