Never say never ....

It won't take much to add a GW section for us on the gw2 forums. And as both sites are hosted by Curse (I think?) there should be no issues with intellectual property rights. They could even assimilate gwguru as a sub section of the gw2 forums...

I'm in Stuey's boat. If there becomes a dedicated gw1 section there that looks like this, I'll move over there. But as of what I've seen today, when guru shuts down I'll probably not be a guru-er anymore. Assuming gw2guru stays looking how it does now.

It's been a good run. I suppose this means my collection is basically done.

Thanks for the good run everyone. I'll still be around in game of course.

This is awful.

Truly awful. Does this mean my PMs to old friends are gone? Collection thread?

GW has on and off been part of my life since I was in high school. A majority of that was facilitated by this website.

I doubt I'll be going to Gw2guru. It's just not the same.

I'm sad, friends.

Where are the gwguru mods?

They're fast enough when someone bumps to close a thread, but can't reply to this thread?

They do a great job, and deserve a reward, but where are they now when we need clarity?
I do hope they haven't been told to keep quiet....

What a crazy move by curse, take offline the more active website to put it as "subsection" on the smaller website Also have a look at the amount of guests compared to registered users.
EDIT: on top of that, most of the "guests" on gw2 guru are probably GW guru users checking out the website..

I would like to think the silence indicates that there is some flexibility in what is happening and they have to think/deliberate before speaking.

Being on the other side of the world to the US, I haven't been available when the announcement was made. Will answer any questions you have as best I can. Throwing this post together just to let you know I'm here. I'm sure there are things worth posting about that aren't coming to mind.

To clarify, Kvinna is the only Curse affiliated person on the mod team. She's the one that knows the in's and out's of what's going on. Everyone else is purely a volunteer and so cannot answer anything about those sort of things unless they've been explained to us previously. We're in the same boat as you, just a few months in advance.

-We've had the chance to move things over (still working on this myself) but there isn't a good way to do it. There will be no direct porting of content from here to there. It's all just copy+paste. Anything you want to archive needs to be done manually, so get on it. If I've reposted something from you that you want to do yourself, just let me know. If there's something I can help with in some way, also let me know.

-As mentioned earlier in the thread, wayback machine can be used to potentially dig up broken images.

-For whatever reason, Curse is having issues with the email server. Email notifications for PMs aren't being sent. If there's someone you want to contact about this that doesn't visit Guru often a PM won't be a particularly effective means of getting their attention.

-There is a specific Guru1 section on Guru2. Presumably it ought to be available now. If it's working for some people but not others, bug Kvinna.

even though i got a bad name here before (for giving my opinions and trying to make sense with english not as my native language and my brains not functioning well, so i sometimes use the wrong words and such), this still is the only GW1 site left (in english)

bah...... now i gotta just use GW and thats it

i know i gave up making suggestions here, but i still can use the PM system and trade section very well, and sometimes answer newbie questions

well..... farewell GWguru, just like GWOnline became GW2online, which is why i left
i already play GW less cuz there's nearly noone who can live with my problems in RL (so i cant play the game very well) in the game, and now this last hope is gone

well, i hope i'll get some better times in GW now...... goodbye
ps. i dont use GW2 sites and i dont wanna use facebook to have contact with people i dont know in RL (with very few exceptions)

can't one of you nerds just copy everything from here and make a new forum with all the shit from here on it?

Coast! I choose you!

Yeah wouldn't it be easy to just make a new forum site? They did that with presearing.com when it went out.

Basiccaly they wont give anyone the database with the forum history to anyone to host somewhere else ? so its all lost and have to start all over again.
I can understand from a buisness point of view that they dont want to manage that part for X ou Y reason. But to not give a chance to people who would like to take over is sad.

I would still like to know why we cant just move it to a private side ?. We have one month to get it done. It's more then enough ive seen thing way bigger then that done over a week-end.

not even close--I know nobody and the caps was about the timeline here, I am only a simple moderator and you have as much information as I do now.
I would help setting up, and modding if need be (and I would assume that the last offer would be refused anyways).

Modding has always been a thankless job. There has always been people that complained about the mods, and usually because they are the ones causing most of the issues.

I think you do just fine cosyfiep. Thank you for putting in the time and effort with no pay.

Let's wait and see what Curse (the host) is going to do. The announcement at the top of guru talks of making our threads over there. Currently there is no section on gw2guru for this, but they may be in he process of implementing this. Panic and knee-jerk reactions would be disastrous. The last thing this community needs are hundreds of independent little forums, each claiming to be our saviour, but in reality getting no site traffic, and woeful security.

Now is the time to assess what our options realistically are, not making a bunch of fan-sites that are doomed to fail. We need a strategy, not heroes.

While I agree with the spirit of this, unless Curse is very welcoming and makes us a place that really feels like home on the GW2 site, we're on a very limited time limit to figure out our options and I think we should at least consider having another fan site be our answer. A little corner on another game's website may not be the forum we want to let the GW community end on.

We don't need a bunch of other sites, but we very well might need one so we aren't at the mercy of Curse, who clearly don't care very much. And I mean that respectfully - I totally understand, we're playing a game from 2005 and Curse has a lot to manage. Guild Wars isn't a mainstream game any more, and it may be time for the remaining community to create our own home.

Our future, whatever it may be, needs to be stable. We need to find a solution that will give us dignity and never be closed without the community deciding on it.
