I'd buy it on description alone.

Only thing I can say is that I played another game that was basicaly a bad joke (we are talking about 95+% of the players being cheaters, 0 customer support cause autoanswers that had nothing to do with your problems is 0 customer support, random bans (so the gm can say that they banned some "cheaters" when asked why they are not doing something with the cheaters), game full with bugs, to make it even worst there was no way to do quests without other humans in party and I can continue this way) and the funny part is that their servers during daytime were almost full. Based on that experience I kinda believe that it doesn't matter what it happens with a game cause there will still be players.
Maybe you will not buy but you have no control on what others will do. You can tell someone that a game is a total fail but that will not stop him to buy it.

Regarding why I'm still here, to be honest I don't really play gw, not much left to do and what's left it's boring so boring that I will probably never do it.

Dupe is bad for a game, dispate the fact that such things wouldn't had affected me when i was extremely active. Most of the things I farmed myself and last time i was active I was selling z-keys cause i wanted plats to max lucky title.

Same here! Both me and my gf will be pre-perchasing that game I mean the game designers did such a great job with GW1 graphics and even gameplay to some extent then the people who are in charge of in-game policies and community relations just came around and almost destroyed it all
Now we're left with a game full of dupers, botters, scammers and angry sad noobs who're hating on anyone that actually put some effort into acquiring rare goodies out of pure jealousy and spite

This of course will -not- happen and it -will- backfire. NCsoft really, truly sucks at marketing/community relations is all I'm gonna say lol... I mean seriously what idiot would EVER do the same mistake twice and invest so much time and effort into acquiring rare items just so the next day someone will hack their account because NCsoft had a security breach or dupe rare items roaming around for weeks/months unpunished or wait how about just hand out those items to just about every lazyass brat out there that ever played the game and have a nice communist i-community! YAY Added to this NCsoft has THE worst support I've ever encountered in an on-line game. They don't give a damn about their customers, they're usually totally unprofessional and 95% of the time give you an auto-reply...
Not only that but GW1 actually got better graphics than GW2 except for skill animations+ a better gameplay in general... All I know is I'll never ever purchase another NCsoft product ever again after all this shit that's been going on!
Man, that was a great troll. I laughed, honestly laughed. I thought you were serious for a little bit. +1 for the troll though.

@OP - They'll fix it as they can. It may not exactly be an 'easy' fix. Just because they know where the bug is (and having screens of how the bug works doesn't necessarily mean knowing where in the code the bug is), doesn't mean they have an adequate fix. Especially a fix that could very easily break other parts of the game.

And especially when a large part of the dev team isn't working on the game. I mean, what do you expect? Is TES4: Oblivion still getting patches? That was a $60 game, and DLC's made it just as much as Guild Wars. Mass Effect 1 and 2, most probably 3, too. The countless bugs that remain in those games.. I'm very much of the opinion that people have unreasonable expectations. I've also found support to be excellent whenever I needed to contact them.

No I think their priorities have been changed recently to be centered around GW2 rather than GW1 and this is still a GW1 forum that you are addressing.

Where's the instructions? The title is misleading.

The only way to demand an urgent fix if the dupe method is abused like crazy or is known publicly.

Yes this has been done before. One way to try and force ANet's hand is to find out the dupe method and publicize it. Disclaimer: I am not recommending anyone to do that, just saying that this has been done before.

I am hoping for a last minute (pre-GW2 release) mass-account ban so that people get shafted by not getting to link their account to GW2. heh

finding and reporting to anet maybe better than publicize it? -_-

You want to make it urgent so you have to create a scenario that is so alarming.

either everyone should duplicate, or noone should....

me personally I'd love to dupe 20.000 z-keys to get zaishen rank 12...because that title is absolutely rdiciolous
No, not really. It doesn't impact my enjoyment of the game much, and the only aesthetic rewards I care about (titles and HoM stuff transferring to GW2) are completed and don't require duping to get anyway. Don't get me wrong, I want this fixed too, but it absolutely does not directly impact my enjoyment of the game, and as such I wouldn't think to uninstall over it.

Anet support seems to live by the "out of sight, out of mind" philosophy. What's better is that topics concerning "illegal" activities are routinely pruned from fansites, such that in most cases the problem manages to be invisible to the masses. In many cases Anet will just ignore such problems and pretend that they don't exist. They did this for a long time with the champ point syncing groups, mesmer PvP bots, well really every type of bot, and duping the first time it came around.

In all of these cases support doesn't seem to respond or gives an automated response. It isn't until the problems become widespread or repeated spamming of threads that the populace gets wind of something and only then does Anet seem to address it.

This has happened many times with other companies. If you find a security hole in one of their products and report it to them, they usually delay and take a long time to fix it because they "think" that the situation is still under control as not many people know about it, even though they have the full technical details to work on a fix right away. Sometimes even taking years to address it. It has always been more expensive for companies to fight immediate fires than to put issues off to be looked at in the future.

However, when the exploit is publicized, is when they would actually assign proper attention to it and fix it asap.

So ANet may not be addressing this right away because not many people know how to exploit it yet, so it is still under control at this point in time. If the exact method is publicized then they would have to scramble to fix this asap.

There are many historical examples of discovered software exploits that show this pattern.

Disclaimer: Again, I am not recommending anyone to do this. I am just quoting historical facts of how some companies tend react to software exploits discovered in one of their products.

Or maybe they are? But are not running around shouting about it? Do we even know if the duping is still possible? Do we know that the patch about the "crash bug" did not stop it?

Just because you do not know about it does not mean they aren't working.

Ideally, you report it to anet and give them deadline after which you will publicize it and make exploit tool available to public.

That is pretty much only responsible thing you can do: Force them to solve it, but give them ability to do it quietly before it becomes very visible issue.

obviously the focus is on GW2; GW1 is on its own.

I love how all the armchair coders here are carrying on about this as though ANet employees should be able to snap their fingers and implement a fix; do you live in the real world? Hunting down the parts of the code that cause these bugs and attempting to fix them in a way that won't cause more bugs or severely break pre-existing gameplay isn't a 5 minute thing...IT TAKES TIME.

For all you know, they have people working on it for their full shifts and have ever since this was alerted to them on the weekend - it may just be a more difficult thing to fix than you realise. Then there's the fact that once it has been fixed, they need to go and code a report to pick up each character / account that was interacting with these particular parts of the code in a specific way or owns the items that are ill-gotten gains from this code and have meetings to determine if it's going to be a no-questions-asked dhuuming or if they're going to cut people that unconsciously bought duped items a break and not ban them, then figuring out how to distinguish those people from the conscious abusers.

Grow Up.

Well, apparently people of Europe and NA - at least most of them - are not affected by military conflicts in the Middle East; they're not affected by the Korean tension, and great many other things.
Things that people still care about, for various reasons. And still are affected by, even if unknowingly.

If anyone with knowledge about this new duping process then please tell Anet about it, they simply may not know where the problem is. Gw2 is probably keeping them from being able to work on it or even find it to begin with.
