Hounds of Balth?

I can't log in for a while I was wondering is this just a companion for rangers or a pet? Can I see an SS?

It's a ranger pet/companion that can be unlocked for free by talking to a npc at Embark Beach or by spending Zaishan Coins/gold or Balthazar Points. It unlocks at level 5 - so you either have to level it yourself or pay to have it's level's and evolutions unlocked. It's classed as a "Exotic" pet by the trainer.

The npc didn't unlock the hound for me, it unlocked a white moa. is this a bug?

Once you have spoken to the NPC in Embark beach.

Map to menagerie .... then go north east to the Lava Cave there you will see 2 Hounds .

No need to speak to any NPC in menagerie just go in and charm it.

Had some fun with heros and ranger with a pack of these guys attacking causing burning.

Probably so. Before the second patch, the Hound appeared as "..." in game, just like the Jingle Moa when it was first introduced. Likely something went wrong when assigning the screen-name to the pet.

Also the description for the Hound in game is actually that of the Imperial Phoenix, not to mention most of the text isn't localized yet.

Actually 3 hounds but one is a baby and can't be charmed.

I'm wondering if new pet each year for 3 more years: Palora, Sworn to Earth; Merrise, Sworn to Seas; Fylinn, Sworn to Winds need to do something.

Agreed, they gotta pay for their food and travels somehow!
