merc hero double?

can i actually make a merc hero with, for example name "I M Spirit" and then delete the char it is from, then make same char with same name and get that merc hero?

i'd like to know now, before its too late

i made a pvp char, then made merc out of her, and remade her, but with same name, and i now i like to know if its allowed

its a factions char, so cant get one right away (should've tried with paragon or something)

I would assume it's possible, but why would you want a bunch of characters with the same name running around?

I'd test it, but I can't delete any of my characters (I love them too much)

you can't, the text says "You cannot register two heroes with the same name." when i tested it with my pvp slot

is that with 1 char and 1 merc hero like that, or 2 merc heroes like that?

as i meant the first, so having same name as the merc hero

ok this may help explain.

i make a pvp chr called mr nobody and i create a merc with that name.
All my other chrs can access that merc ( mr nobody ) except the pvp chr with that name.
If i deleted the pvp chr ( mr nobody ) and made another pvp chr and attempted to call it mr nobody it could be done but soon as you try to register another mr nobody then it wouldnt allow it - you cant have more than 1 merc with same name sadly - even if different professions

No, it's not possible to create a merc hero from a character, then delete that character, create a new character with the same name, and recruit the previously created merc hero. The merc will show up in the "add a hero" list (or the party search list), but will be greyed out and unavailable.

You can, however, create a character with that name on a different account, and team up with a character on the first account and they can then add the merc with the same name.
Completely pointless of course, but you could have two identical entities in the same party.

I'm a little confused, are you saying that I can make a mercenary from ANY character that is in my party even on a friend's account? So if my friend has a really nice looking mesmer, I can team up with them and register them as a mercenary?

No. I think he/she's saying that you can have that merc in your party if the char from the other account has it already and puts it in party. Like you can have in party any hero the other party members have. Nothing more, you sure can't register anyone else's chars.

That said if your friend has a really cool toon, you might be able to make a PvP clone; with a small adjustment to the name, and roll said clone over as a Merc; Viola - you can travel with the Merc even when your friend is not around; but it might be polite to ask first; after all it is your friends creative work; and like my toon is always in her Tux; and it costs (a little) real money to sport that look. BB.

Another merc question. Right now I have a mesmer merc that I made from a rolled PvP character with the basic armor they came with (and later deleted). If I go ahead and pay for a costume, can I:

1. Delete the existing boring looking merc
2. Roll a new PvP toon with the exact some name and give them a costume
3. Register them as a merc

The $25,000 question is this: Will my existing runes and upgrades reappear on all the old mesmer mercs on the new mesmer merc (the wiki discussion page says they will)? Or do I have to go through all the trouble of salvaging off all the runes and weapons first?

As long as the new merc is the same profession as the old one, it should keep all runes and insignia intact. Weapons too, afaik. Just be certain the new merc is going into the same slot as the old one.

I haven't done a great deal of testing, but it seems that non-profession-specific runes and insignia will stay intact even if you change the merc's profession. But you will lose profession-specific ones if you change it.
Weapons always stayed intact too in my tests.
