Guild wars on windows7?

Recently I upgraded my OS from vista to win7pro.

Game keeps crashing after I click "sign in" everytime.

I tried running it in vista/sp1-sp2 & xp/sp1-sp2 compatibility mode, still the same issue.


any solutions?

have you tried running the game as admin? Ive never had any problems you are experiencing adn am also running W7 Pro. But Ive read quite often that the Admin setting is to blame.

did you do an upgrade on windows or a fresh install? also have you tried uninstalling GW and doing a fresh install of that if running as admin doesnt work. im running on win 7 ultimate wit no problems but every OS upgrade ive ever done has been fresh installs.

I recently went from Vista to Windows 7, but I did a fresh install like the poster above. GW runs fine under Windows 7, so there must be a problem with your GW installation.
Uninstall/delete GW - download latest client from GW website - install client - perform an "-image" and "Bob's your teapot."

I'm running Win7 Pro 64 (clean install) and GW runs like a beaut. Pure awesomeness is running in a window on screen 1 with wiki open on screen 2.

well, did clean install for OS.

Re-installed GW. then ran -image.

still crashing when I click sign in. its really odd.

Even tried running in admin mode.

Is it crashing only when you click to sign in? Or does it crash on the log on screen in general?

I'm also running on Win7, using the x64 version of home premium. I was having a bad problem with the game crashing at the log on screen and it turned out that Xfire was the culprit. So if you're running that, try closing it out and try again.

I never had any problems with it im running guildwars fine on windows 7 64 and 32 bit

Did you install GW in default location? It might be having some weird permissions issue - this seems to be an issue with Vista & Win7 with stuff installed in "Program Files". Personally I have a "Games" directory.. which is where I install games.. so my GW is installed: C:/Games/Guild Wars/

Is User Access Control (UAC) on or off? UAC can cause crazy crazy issues and break stuff. I'd suggest turning this off if it's on!

To disable go to your Control Panel, then go to User Accounts, then click "Change User Account Control settings" and drag the slider to the bottom and then reboot your computer.

As suggested by SacredTbag - turn off or close Xfire if you have it, it's known to cause issue's with Guild Wars.

Pretty sure that's just a default exception. 'Memory cannot be read' or whatever.

Graphics drivers perhaps?

^ probably that, are you sure you got the Win 7 drivers for your card? Might be worth uninstalling, downloading and then reinstalling the graphics drivers just to be sure.

Do a complete removal of your display drivers using DriverSweeper in safemode.

That is....

Download new graphics drivers from ATi or nVidia (whoever makes your card)
Uninstall graphics drivers
Restart and boot into safe mode (hit f8 before windows starts to load)
Run driver sweeper and remove all traces of your drivers (ATi or nVidia)
Restart computer and boot into normal windows
Install fresh drivers you downloaded from download area of ATi or nVidia's site.

If this fails, uninstall your sound drivers and reinstall them.

If that fails... report back here for further troubleshooting.

when I run on my new machine, which is specc'ed to run high-end games, and has Windows 7 64-bit, I occasionally get these short pauses, where the screen goes black, then it's back to where I was. Not really annoying as it only lasts about 2 seconds, and happens now and then. Still would like to know why a machine that could probably run 10 copies simultaneously does this.

Can't help you any if you don't give system specs. --- Need to know what hardware you have, what drivers, system temperatures, etc....

Just as an aside, i also have a new relatively high end machine with 7 64bit.

I have the same black screen for a second or so every loading screen, also when i change between window/maximize.

Not an issue but would be nice to get rid of it.

Do you have an AMD GPU?

I have an AMD/ATi gpu and it does that for me.

All to common with Win 7 and ATi, but interestingly enough not on windows xp.

I do believe running in compatability for xp SP2 should fix this. Fairly common issue

The loading screen issue is definitely an ATI issue with win 7. Haven't tried running it in xp compatibility mode so i'll definitely try that.
