From the media frenzy I saw in the US when they reached the last 16 during the World Cup you could have fooled me

But the key words there are "THE MEDIA" The Media sure was all about the World Cup this year, mainstream america was meh IMO. CathanSuperNewBowlYear aside, I think Silver makes sense on this from a planning standpoint, very useful to lock this down.
ACK!! You sir are correct! WA would be correct, I have to change my ticket!

On topic~it is nice having a set schedule for the same reasons that many have already said.
P.S. Go Bears!

KJ, let's get down to brass tacks here. GW1 is old, GW2 is right around the corner now, and the Live Team & Test Krewe are working on dervish's skills followed by the paragon's. Automating GW1 events and other routine functions is to be expected. Sure, nobody likes the fact that GW1 isn't recieving attention the way it used to, but the undeniable truth is that the game's fun factor has been severely exhausted at this point.
I personally don't like anything being automated because it gives the impression that there's no care or involvement [due to laziness, disinterest, etc.], but on the same token it's not necessarily a bad thing to have. I mean, it sure beats not having any automation at all, no weekend events, no updates [ever], etc., etc.
If anything, I think they should offer weekly events for both PvE AND PvP simultaneously so that one side of the community doesn't have to wait another week or two just to get the event they want. It'd also stimulate activity a bit more prior to the release of GW2. That's just my two cents. If any of this seems abrasive, please disregard that emotion as it wasn't my intention to cause you any irk.

As your post and others have said, why not have PvP and PvE weekend events? Why not have triple dye drop weekends? Why not add more fun and random weekend events, like a randomly inserted Costume Brawl or something?
If this is the weekend schedule we're going to have for the next two years....I'd like a little more variety or creativity.

I don't see why they can't have a pvp and a pve event running concurrently the same weekend. For those that mostly just stick to one or the other, they only get an event every second weekend. Now, events like double luxon/kurzick might count as both pvp and pve, but why can't I, say, get double EotN rep points the same weekend that GvG gets double Balth faction or whatever?

Off topic: Soccer is the least interesting sport known to man. It's clinically proven. 95% of lab rats subjected to soccer broadcasts have been observed bending the bars of their cages in order to thrust themselves upon the exposed end, thus committing Hari-Kari.

Horace Slughorn!
on topic: i like the idea of pvp/pve weekend split. Other then famring i come on nowadays to do some talking and to mess arround on the weekend events. If its PvP.. well i dont even bother getting on usually(all my friends are pve players and feel the same way so if its PvP its like:why the eff should we get on?). so yea i like the PvE/PvP weekend split.

Here come the "BAWWWWWWWW, I'M A PVX PLAYER AND I CAN'T DO BOTH" comments.

Either way, I don't like the idea of having the Live Team spend time on mixing up the weeklies. I think they can spend their time in a better way. As KJ said, it does indeed make you wonder, where the current manpower is spent on exactly. I guess it takes only one Live Team member to coördinate the Test Crew on a daily basis, so theoretically they should have at least two people continuously working on something other than skill balances...
I've always been for PVP/PVE split for events, so that each side don't have to wait ages before having again the useful weekend.
As for automatation I don't know, I think I'm fine either way, not having it gives the impression someone cares abot the community, but having it gives a good planning option.

I'm all for automation of weekend events so the limited resources of the Live Team may be spent on new content, skill balances, or anything more interesting than hand cranking the events. That was actually one of their goals if you recall: to automate as much as possible of weekend events and festivals in order to allow time for other things.

Me. I'm checking all the time because it's weird, it's usually known a lot before...are they making a bad joke, like no weekend events anymore?
|
Either that or the automation broke. It's definitely strange. The event should start tomorrow and we don't even know what it is.

I don't think so. I mean...it's been automated since April and just automatically adding them on Mondays, so maybe it means they stopped the automation to announce something new.
|
I just can't imagine what, tough.
Let's hope so. The game is in dire need of some new life. But, don't they still typically announce weekend events even when there's a Thursday update?
Freedom Bound said this on GWW and it makes sense:
I forgot they were out of town. They may have completely forgotten about us....

i dont mind seeing the events on auto-pilot this late in the game. gives us the ability to plan ahead kind of the same way i do with the z-missions. only real change i would like to see and have wanted to see for atleast 2 years now is extending them 2 more days. start them at noon on thursday and end them on tuesday. that way it gives everyone a chance to take advantage of whatever the event is. not everyone plays on the weekends and having 2 weekdays added on would allow those who miss the weekend to still get some weekday time in.
