I was looking to replace my year-old outdated forum avatar last night and got the idea of editing skill icons to look like my own characters. I ended up not using this as my avatar due to a nice Conjure Frost screenshot I took in-game, but I think it would be interesting to do some more of these.



This is not a commission thread.
(meaning, art is free.)


For ideas I'm taking requests - post with a screenshot of your character and a link to the high-res skill icon from the GW wiki that you want edited. (Also, if the skill icon shows the back side of a character, it would be a good idea for your screenshot to be of your character's back....)

Gender of your character v.s. gender of the character on the icon doesn't matter (it's only adding or removing a couple bumps anyways?!) but you'll only be considered if the profession of your character and the skill are the same.

If and only if I see a character/skill combo that looks interesting to draw then I'll draw it and post the end result on this thread.

Great idea and I like what you've done with Lightning Reflexes!

I'd love for my character to be added into any of the following skills:


Winter's Embrace


Ward Against Harm


Mind Freeze


Ice Spear


Freezing Gust

@Frozen - Ward, Ice Spear, and Freezing Gust all look fun

I like the Winter's Embrace skill icon, but it doesn't really make sense to have the caster as the character being 'hugged' ... oO;;

In either case, I'll see what I can come up with today/tomorrow.

Are you planning on doing one of each class first before repeating classes? Because my main is a ranger, and I don't know if you want to get at least one of each class before cycling back to ranger.
Let me know either way please. I love this idea and what you've done with it so far.

Let me know either way please. I love this idea and what you've done with it so far. Hmm... it wouldn't be really fair of me if I were to call dibs on a class just because I play it. Go ahead and post your Ranger, although I looked through all the Ranger skills and I found very few that looked like they would be good for editing.


Also, just an observation - I categorize skill icons into 4 types:
1. What you are doing
2. What you did to the enemy
3. Symbols
4. Scenery

What you are doing - these are the icons I can edit easily, because it depicts the caster [you] casting/attacking. Ranger examples would be Lightning Reflexes, Dodge, Escape, Dual Shot...

What you did to the enemy - these icons show the enemy (usually another human) getting hurt.... (or healed in the case of some monk spells, I guess.) The character on the icon is NOT the caster. Distracting Shot, Point Blank Shot, Crip Shot, etc are all in this category.

Symbols - Signets, weird looking stuff, weapons, mantras, etc. No character on the icon. Ranger examples: Antidote Signet, Apply Poison, Beast Mastery skills that only show the pet.

Scenery - Fertility etc, these icons have nothing but scenery on them.. o.O


Think about what category your chosen skills fall under before posting!

The ones I was mainly considering were:
Companionship
Heal As One
Strike As One
Dodge
Practiced Stance
Marauder's Shot

I believe those all fall under the first category. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, I'm not desperate for a picture, and if you'd rather do another class or anything that's absolutely fine. I just wanted to know if you were interested before I went to work screenshot-ing and posting.

By the way, I have a character of every profession, and if you think of a profession you'd be interested in doing, I'd love to submit my character for consideration.

EDIT. If you don't get tired by doing rangers, as the previous ones are always taken, I was thinking about (in preference order) Predatory bond Predatory bond , Symbiotic bond or even Run as one. Bestial fury is also nice though the face can't be seen so not much of a costumization.

Anyway there's a lot of nice ranger icons good for editing, while other classes (ex mesmer) mainly picture the targets or symbols.
I'll post my ranger's screenshots only if you accept, as you could be tired of rangers by now

Edit: Looked over these two icons earlier, but they would make pretty nifty options. These skills are about all the mesmer skills that show the caster and not the target in a way that can be artfully redone. Most showing the caster just show a hand or look pretty meh.

Power Flux - I'm pretty sure this is showing the target, not the caster. And its a different high-res icon than the normal icon. But thats a pretty sweet icon.

I think Wandering eye and Waste not want not are good also, if you didn't consider them...just a hint.
Maybe also Calculated risk and Power return now that I looks better

Mm, saw those. I was never really a fan of the EotN mesmer icons, they don't look as nice as the older ones even if they are more detailed. I was thinking of listing power return, probably should have stuck it right next to stolen speed since they're very similar. >.< Looks like a different angle on the same woman.

Suppose there's Persistence of Memory and Hex Eater Vortex too if you wanna go for listing them all.
*points up a couple posts* Those + power return (minus power flux) are probably the best mesmer icons showing the caster though.

Edit: Oh! If you're thinking of good icons from more useful skills (as opposed to unused skills like Hex Eater Vortex), then Tease, Wandering Eye, Lyssa's Aura, and Channeling are likely the best choices in roughly that order.
