Is being in a guild worth it?

I am curious because I can't find sufficient reason to be in a guild. I have GW complete since about a month ago, and I am enjoying very much the Pve part of the game, and I've stayed in a guild for about a week, but I didn't know what to expect from it. I didn't actually need any help with anything, mostly because I could find the help I needed in the mission areas, objects I can find on my own, and for now I am too weak for pvp. I wanted at least socialization but mostly the people in the guild ignored me when I tried to talk, so that was out of the question and the alliance was big and silent. I am confused, can you please explain what I am supposed to expect of a guild to make it a fun experience?

short answer, ABSOLUTELY!

Long answer, it is sometimes hard to find one that fits just right. all guilds come in a variety of flavors. You have your laid back guilds that just mess around here and there in gw. On the opposite side, you have your high-end, speed clear everyday guilds with strict requirements to join. You have guilds that do rolepleying. You have guilds that are filled with new players still learning the game.

For me, I enjoy being in a guild that ues vent majorily to communicate. It is so much better for communication and general socializing. I find just using chat to be cumbersome and misrepresentative of what people are truly like.

You just have to look for the guild that suits you and your wants, desires, and what you are looking to get out of this game. Browsing through the guild recruitment thread is a good way to get a general feel of some guilds that are looking for players. however, sometimes it takes a few tries before you finally find a guild that you finally enjoy being in ;-)

p.s. making your own guilds is always an option too but being a guild leader of an active and large guild requires quite a bit of time dedication. ;-)

Most people are in guilds now for friends and people to talk too. Also after doing missions and things they want to do elite areas which you can't (for the most part) do alone. People also join guilds to work on titles since there isn't really alot to do after you've explored the game.

If you are a casual player and don't want to expand into the guild scene and expand your knowledge of the game and make lots of money/titles then you don't have too. You aren't paying to play the game every month so no one is forcing you to play. You can just log on, explore, then log off if you really want to.

QFT! It's pretty much the only way to get groups together for the storyline of older campaigns now and playing with guildies using Vent, TS, Skype etc. adds to the fun factor of the game.

I suggest you check the recruiting sections here in the forums, you might just find a guild that suits you.

What the others said. And what to expect?? Nothing really. Its just fun to play with one more person or more people especially if they have like unlocked everything.
And they can help you giving you advice.
Just dont expect anything from help to conversation in guild.
. Ocasionally you will meet people you enjoy playing with. Thats what makes the game fun.
And if people really ignore you well there are hundreds of guild to choose.

being in a guild is definately worth it. As far as what u can expect it depends on what guild u join, and this is exactly why it is worth it. Guilds are set up by players normally for specific reasons, there are guilds that take all comers but most are focused on specific areas of game playing. If u like sc's there are guilds that focus on that, if u like pvp be it ha or jq/fa/ab whatever there are guilds devoted to that. If u need to farm your kurz/lux faction there are guilds like that. There are also guilds built on the necessity to joke around on vent. When u know what u want to do for fun in the game search that type of guild and u will eventually find like-minded individuals that share your idea of fun. It may take a few "trys" to find the right one, but keep at it and u will find the guild u are looking for.

There's nothing to 'expect' when in a guild. The only way to find out of a guild fits, is to join it.

But then, you first need to know what you want from a guild.

Yes, that's why I am asking what I should expect, because I am not sure what I would like or want, or what's there to like.

If the guild your in is ignoring you leave. The fun from being in a guild/alliance is the interaction. So try and find a guild that suits you.

Also if you plan on trying to do some of the higher end places (UW, FOW, The Deep, Urgoz, DoA, etc.) a guild is almost a necessity in order to form a proper group.

All in all the Guild in Guild Wars can be a part of the game that makes all the grind worthwhile. But only if you find one that is actually worthwhile.

Any of the TIG guild are great, they are friendly and all that. I go looking out for them if I were you.

There are soo many different types of guilds out there that you can find one that suits u best. Some will be based more so on activities, some on interactions. Some will have rude ppl, some will not. Some will focus on certain aspects, some will be more generalized. There are so many, you are bound to find one u like.

Since it seems you have no need for aid...might I suggest simply going for the most friendly guild u can.

There are many different reasons to be in a guild. If you want it to help get through missions and quests, you can find them. If you want it to have people available for PvP (HA and GvG) you can find them. If you want them for people to do speed clears with, you can find them. If you want them to socialize with even when not playing together, you can find them.

The problem isn't whether a guild that fits your needs exists, but in you finding it. If the ONLY thing you want out of a guild is to socialize, then I highly suggest you find something better to do with your time. If you have completed the games, have you done things like DoA, The Deep/Urgoz, Tombs, Sorrows Furnace, Slavers? Some of those are impossible to do without other people, and some are just very difficult. And if you don't have more things you want to do, why still play?

Just find a guild that does what you want to do, and it will be worth it. I recommend spending a LOT of time looking for a guild, and not playing. Take time to talk with people in a guild that is recruiting, see what they do, how active they are, when they are active, how big they are, what requirements they may have, etc. THEN, if you find a guild (or several) that answer those types of questions the way you want, ask them to include you in some activities to meet other members. Actually playing with them will give you more insight on how they work. Don't waste time with guilds spamming local chat in major cities, rarely do those guilds recruit quality people with similar interests.

Yes, that was my idea also, a big, mature and friendly guild. I am already searching in pve guild recruitment

Yes just find a guild that does stuff. If a guild does not serve you any purpose, leave it and find another. And usually when I go looking for a guild I ask how many members does the guild have and how many active sometimes. I usually find the guilds that concentrate on a small portion on of the game is most efficient, such as faction farming or speed clears.

Forums like this (as you are already searching here), in game by joining PUGs, or by talking to people in your friends list (if you don't have people in your friends list there is a bigger problem). Even people who are not actively recruiting may be recruiting. PUGs are often used by people to find other people who have similar interests and play styles. So if you join a PUG and meet someone who you like playing with, ask them about their guild. Even if they are not an officer/leader, finding out about their guild may get you an invite if the person talks to the leader/officers for you. At the least, they can get you in touch with those people.

Finding a good guild is partly luck, but mostly about using the proper search techniques. Guilds that spam in cities usually accept ANYONE, and many of those people dont' stay long. Those guilds are in constant flux, people leaving regularly and new people coming. Having a stable group of people means you know the ones that can do what you need/want and will be around when you are. Just because a guild is big does not mean it is good. May cause trouble for using this one, but I remember not too far back LaZy was ALWAYS recruiting, and in multiple places. You just couldn't go somewhere without seeing someone from LaZy recruiting. They were a HUGE alliance, but they were always recruiting because people didn't stay long.

So take time to find one that will do what you want to do, have people who play the way you do, and people who socialize in a way you enjoy. It may take a day, ir may take a couple months. But if you spend the time before joining doing the research, then you will be less likely to find yourself wanting to leave to look for a new one. So unless you like looking for a new guild, the time spent finding the right one is worth it.

Before you go off to find a guild after all of this advice, you need to decide what YOU want from a guild, like an earlier gamer stated. Guilds are as different from each other as anyone could imagine.

Some guilds have member qualifications, while others will take anyone.

Some guilds have limits on how many members they want while others will recruit as many as possible just for the numbers.

Some guilds have a Code of Conduct and/or a set of Guild Rules while others are willy-nilly all over the place.

Some guilds are recruiting the first-time GW player and some will only consider the highly experienced player.

Some guilds are highly structured in their organizational hierarchy while others will promote anyone into a position of authority without qualification.

Some guilds like PvE activities and are bustling with activity 24/7 or are either Weekend Warriors, while other guilds are just 1 week from death due to inactivity.

Some guild recruiters will tell the truth about what is going on in their guilds, while others will lie through their teeth just to get you to join.

I could go on and on, but the important thing is that you must look at what you want to accomplish and then (and only then) get out there and find a group of people that are like you.

I guess in conclusion I will have to understand my play style and with what kind of players I can team up efficiently, and then try my best to find a good guild expecting to search for it for a long time. Hmm, something extra to think about besides my faculty exams .

At least I already know that I am an aggressive player, I like spikes, and pulverizing a big number of enemies as fast as possible, I hope that's a start to help me find a good guild for me .

There are some guilds out there that make you want to quit the game, but the good guilds make you want to play and it makes a enjoyable experience
