I dont post threads that often in the community, but this has bugged me since the end of EotN.
*Note- when I say "Hero(s); I man our Character's, not the actual bot heros.*
So we all know what our hero's have done across 3 campaigns; Thwarted the comming of the Titans, brought together a Nation divided, cured a plauge, destroyed a once-dead vengeful power-hungry punk, killed(?) a God(not including Dhuum if you have done so), and finally delayed (or speed-up? lol) the desutruction of all Tyria from the Destroyers.
Ok, so maybe the last one is an exception since we kinda "Effed" up there, but hwow were we supposed to know...the Asura didnt even know! That and the whole debokkal with Palawa and ho he screws Elona in the end..woops! But generally our deeds were done in good-faith.
So...where is our kudos? I took it from the end of almost...every campign, as well as EotN that nobody gave a SHAT that we pretty much saved the world. What gives?
You may argue that "we have the Hall of Monuments..blah blah blah.." but that dank broom closet wasent given to us with welcome arms when we stumbled into the snow and wen't "holy shat, there are people up here!".
The biggest thing that bugs me, and this pretty much only pertains to Male character, is why the crap did gwen get with Lt. Thackaray!?! Like, really...we traveled with her to the end of the world pretty much and she didnt give a hoot? Who really WAS appricative of our deeds? I find that question hard to answer, but is that necicarily a bad thing? I dont mean this part to sound creepy, not like "omg this pixel character should me mine!!!". I never really was fond of gwen to begin with; she wouldnt stop f'ing following me through questing in Pre and she was a whiney b**** in EotN who should of gotten her ass eatin by that Giant devourer in the BMP(honestly....who throws a rock?) or Pyre Fierceshot. But its the fact of the matter that pretty much none of the heros we used....with the exception of maybe Ogden...was like "Hey, so we've been through hell and back...wanna...you know..*wink*" (aside from putting M-rated nonsense in a great game).
It is a nice touch to almost throw this at us, it makes out characters seem that "god like" that hopefully in GW2 our "new" characters are referred to as the "decendants of the saviors of this world". The least the world could do for our characters is recognise that we played an enourmous part in the shaping of the future, so is it so bad to ask for some recognition?
What do you guys think? Post anything that has been on your mind about this topic, because I'm probably not the only one who feels hw/she has been underappreciated these 5 years (amongst the Tyrians/Elonians/Canthans what have you...not people in RL)
Also, I guess I'm asking "Where is our Hero's story at the end of EotN, or GW2 for that matter?"
The underappreciation of our Hero?

You also omitted the fact that our heroes are pretty much responsible for Elona ending up under the iron grip of Palawar Joko a generation or so later.
Also, the Gwen question bothered me a bit.
The only real explanation is that it's really impossible to design for something like that in an MMO. Every GW player can't become the new god of truth, after all.
If anything, the design team is at fault for over-inflating character accomplishments.
As somebody on these boards posted ages ago: The focus of making shit epic is what ruined GW in the first place.

Don't forget also that we saved cantha from shiro and some god forsaken luxon/kurzick rune trader /merchant won't trade us cause we have more kurzicks/ luxon points and we are in opposite faction. I mean how dare you! Fetch me that axe, you would be dead anyway if it wasn't for us.
Edit: Ow and not to forget Kormir, 100% most hated NPC in gw. If she's given any significant role in gw2 i'll rage. I only hope that she is only a shell that holds abbadon. That god unlike some knew how to party. He orchestrated the whole thing all the time.

And yeah I can see your point to the En'th degree about Epicness and how its impossible to add what I said to an MMO, nor would i really "want" anything like that in an MMO (save that for the real world haha).
But I mean, some team at ANet must have sat down for a couple hours writing that diolouge between Gwen and Lt. Thackaray...yet when we walk in and that panzy daisy-sniffer Thackaray is'nt in there we get no recognition from Gwen...I mean....really? (Picnics < Killing Dhuum, Raptors, Aataxes..etc)
This isnt limtited to gwen either, can extend to the Norn, the Charr and the Asura. However I see the Asura's point since we aren't that smart XD.

It doesn't bug me so much in the grand scheme of things, because really, I don't expect history to remember much. It will probably remember rurik, mhenlo, togo. The big names. Just like history always remembers the leaders and generals. Only Ken Burns remembers the sergeants and the like.
However, it did bug me in the present. I present the most striking example: norn. We arrive in the far shiverpeaks, and every norn looks down on us puny humans (by the way, ever notice how racist everyone is in GW?). They brag about their hunting prowess and mock and scorn us. "I've kill one thousand bears. You are weak and insignificant. Go kill a thousands of centaurs and ice spirits, and maybe you can lick my boot" and I'm thinking, "you *******! I've ****** killed a ***** god!"
last I checked 1 god > 1000 bears.

Pretty much nothing. I think all the horrors my primary has witnessed have kind of ruined him. He just spends his days drinking, consuming large quantities of comfort food, and endlessly partying to forget the past.
*sigh* If only there was some kind of womanizing title, his downward spiral would be complete.

What have the heroes done for the world lately?
I think there is something to the heroes not being properly rewarded still, there's not much that'll be done about it. |
"They tk mah jeeb"
But hey we got 1 green weapon at the end of campaign.
We saved chosens, got lich, unleashed titans, wiped mursats, killed forgottens, took glinths egg, killed stone summit, saved deldrimor dwarves killed afflicted, killed shiro, saved cantha, killed kurzics/luxon, killed kournans, saved sunspears, killed maddned souls, helped palawa, killed some of his minions, killed abadon, saved elona ... *takes breath* killed one char faction to save other, helped vanguard to kill chars, helped anthon who was traitor and the list goes on...
Guess nothing is black and white and you have to pick sides...
@Master Mxyzptlk : Don't forget we ...erm not killed but put to sleep another god ,Dhuum, to save Grenths weak ass.

Bringing the Kurzicks and Luxons together weakened them through peace, until even the weakling army of Cantha was able to conquer them.
Helping Palawa Joko allowed him to take over Elona. (Not necessarily a bad thing though; Joko seemed like a pretty cool guy.)
The player only saved Tyria after majorly screwing up by helping some terrorists help the lich free the titans.
Etc.

I love you.
Okay, on topic now, I can understand how we aren't amazing because we took down the titans, as we got them out in the first place so we just cleaned up our own mess. I can understand how killing Shiro (again) wasn't that great, cause let's face it. It's Shiro. The guy is an idiot. Strong, but an idiot.
But when we took down Abbadon, the God of Secrets, the Villian of GW1 (He corrupted Shiro with the Fortune Teller Demon, and used the Lich to get his Titans out of the DoA) and those damn norn look down on us? WTF? Also; "Getting allies to fight with you against the destroyers?" yeah that was fun and all, but seriously, in the end you still took down the Great Destroyer with seven other people. Seven. There is also the possibility that none of them were Norn, Dwarven, or Asuran. The other races can go **** themselves. I know where my loyalties lie.
I mean, yeah those Asuran Golems are impressive, but I have yet to see one break down a door with almost a dozen bone fiends and tear **** up. That's my job. That's why I'm the damn hero.

We don't know if it effects the people south of vabbi as well, but if it just aimed at Vabbi then, I welcome our new Palawan overlord!

you know what you just did, you probably didn't intend it, but with that oddly worded sentence, you gave me the mental image of ogden winking and slinking behind a silk curtain in a loincloth/male thong.... I can never get that sight out of my head now.

Amusingly enough, quite a large number of our deeds are done in secret.
Prophecies? You wander off into the wilds, and are never heard from again until a bunch of titans are rampaging across the world (someone should find the evil ******* who let them out and rip them a new one, yes indeed) and you help fight them off. The only people who know what really happened are rebels (who lie all the time, of course) and dwarves, who turned to stone on some foolish crusade.
Nightfall? You lead a failed invasion and leave the survivors sitting with their thumbs up their rears in a cave while you talk to Vabbi. After getting the princes to actually give a damn, you walk off into the desert, from which everyone knows no one returns. Suddenly, the evil god is dead, and a new god arises! Hooray! Heroes? What heroes, it must all be thanks to the new god!
Factions is the closest we get to true recognition, with the emperor himself giving a personal "Kthxbai". Yet even then, the focus is on Togo, who united the clans with Mhenlo and sacrificed himself in a noble, brave, totally-not-rebirthable-fashion. Still, in this realm, there's a legitimate point about a lack of appreciation, especially from the yokels down south.
As for GWEN, in all likelihood, each faction claims victory for itself. The Asura nod in satisfaction at the performance of their golems. The dwarves raise their voices in triumph at the apex of their crusade. The vanguard lick their wounds and return to the fight. The norn hold a round bro-fistbumping and get sloshed.
But the hero, the lone hero stands alone and apart.

I think you need a break from Guild Wars. Not trying to be mean, not trying to be funny, i mean it from the bottom of my heart, you need a break from Guild Wars.

No offense, OP, but you are taking Guild Wars a little too serious. >_>
p.s.

I lol'ed when I read the oh-so obvious jealousy you have built up from Gwen hooking up with Lt. Thak. xD!!
