The folks at Wartower.de had an interview with Martin Kerstein some time ago, and they just released it today. It's in German, so if any body that speaks the language wants to put up a synopsis it would be appreciated.

Judging by the comments, which I can machine translate at least, there is really no new GW2 information, but a lot of the commentors thought it was a good interview. Some other commentors discussed the PvP types in GW1 that disappeared and the upcoming 5th birthday.

- The entrance into PvP is to high in GW1, they will to try to make it easier in GW2.
- In GW2 the number of PvP formats will be reduced.
- Balancing will never stop.
- There will be new content for GW1, but the definition of "content" may varies from player to player. Mainly new content will expend the story of GW1 and will build a bridge to GW2.
- They may expand the Test Krewe.
- HB and TA will not return.
- Even negative feedback has something positive; if people criticize a game it means they're (still) interested into it.
- There will be something special for the 5th birthday.
- New costumes are very likely.
- HoM will be account based in GW2. One GW2 account will be abled to linked to another GW1 accont. With a special item you will be able to enter a instance of the HoM. There are no informations what the bonuses are at this point.
- They seriously consider to enable player organized tournaments. It hasn't made clear if they also consider if players will be able to make custom maps.
- There isn't a easy way to show who is online in the alliance guilds, so it's very unlikely it will be implemented in GW1.
- The build system in GW2 will be similar to GW1; you can make a build out of different possibilities.

Lets get the whining over with now so we don't have to deal with it later ok?

I was seriously going to buy GW2 until I read this. They really shouldn't have said anything.

Cliff notes for this interview:
We are catering to down syndrome for GW2, removing anything fun or challenging that was in GW1, and basically creating a weaker and watered down version of WoW that isn't pay to play.

If I'm wrong, stab me in the face, but thats what I got from this interview.

Rofl, they still refuse to accept responsibility for the power creep and all of those "amazing" skill updates.

Too high?!?!? It takes about half a minute to create a pvp char, and a pve one a few hours!

I find this really interesting, gonna have to wait till they release more info on this to have a solid opinion.

There wasnt enough to come to that conclusion so you are reading into it what you want to.

hm.
no new content....and just when is this gw2 coming out??? people are already biting at the bit for something to do (idle hands are the devils workshop).

expand the test crew??? why??? I understand the desire to balance the game, but adding more people is kinda like adding more chefs---too many spoil the broth idea.

new costumes, gee now theres some news.

sigh. oh well.

BS statement is BS. Thinking that something is shit, and saying so, is by no means an indication of interest. It's merely an indication that you think it's shit, and took the time to say so.

This is the only significant thing I see there. Everything else was pretty much known, or could have easily been concluded from one thing or another.

The line is a little unclear. Are they talking about player-organized tournaments in GW, or GW2? We've already had player-organized tournaments in GW, if I recall correctly. It would be interesting to know that there's a system in the works for players to design and create their own tournaments within GW.

Interested in hearing more about the content to come for the fifth birthday. Also interested in more about the HoM, but I can hop over to GW2Guru if I want to inquire more about that.

I take it that you haven't tried to PuG HA lately. I think that even long time players can tell you that it gets fairly bad.

I don't think that our memberlist has reached the critical point where adding more contributors will result in our discussions and suggestions being less productive. Also, I think that someone from ANet may have said way back when the first Test Krewe participants were selected that they were considering increasing the size of it later.

What I'm curious about is how they're planning to go about doing this. They have plenty of options - pick people out of the stack of old applications, have people fill out new applications, manually select groups of people that they see potential in, ask the Krewe members to select other members to join the Krewe... Though I doubt that last idea would fly.

Martin Kerstein commented on player tournaments on GW2G in the IncGamers interview thread. That would imply that they are considering it for GW2.

LMAO, but that is basically what I got out of it also. Since I have nothing positive to say about GW anymore with this retarded Test Krewe inspired update that killed monks and left speedclearing intact for SF, I just have one more disagreement: that having negative things to say indicates I am still interested in the game. To prove it, my soon-to-be-posted high end thread selling EVERYTHING is coming soon. I am typing it onto Word first and it is at 2 pages and counting. I already sold off 2 prized possessions that I said I would never ever sell, and omg... does it feel liberating. Now that I think about it, getting stabbed in the face might be a more pleasant experience than playing GW2. If they dumb GW2 down enough I might even be able to play if I go blind from a knife in the head.

You can start this now with Guild Wars 1?

More Test Krewe people, diversity instead of people who only play certain professions, or does this mean they'll do more than skill balances?

I happen to agree with this to some extent. I still play, but the latest turn to creating further imbalance is disturbing.

i didnt really read anything earth shattering. I certainly didnt see anything "bad" in fact i didnt really get that much from the interview at all.

I do agree when people piss and moan that means they still care on some level. I know if i dont care i dont give two craps what happens. Why burn time and energy whining like a school girl if you dont care? why not just take your ball and go home already?

just my take i guess.

Either your champing A-Net or you can't read. Let me put down in gamer perspective, as a competitive player, I perceived this update as.

The number of skills in GW2 will be reduced because many players were crushed by the sheer number of skills and possible builds.
(Many players were crushed by the number of skills and possible builds? There are a total of 10 viable builds in the game, and thats including HA team 123 vent spike builds, that can actually do shit. The SHEER number of builds possible? Your f'in delusional.)
- The entrance into PvP is to high in GW1, they will to try to make it easier in GW2.
(Only time 'entrance' into PvP in GW1 is hard, is when you suck at the game or dont know how to ask nicely to join an HA group. I am R0 and have been in R10+ groups kicking the hell out of all the 'high ranked' guilds for the last couple days because I became so bored I decided to try HA.)
- In GW2 the number of PvP formats will be reduced.
(There are, count it, 4 PvP formats in Guild Wars. Random, HA, AB, GvG.)
- Balancing will never stop.
(You guys balance stuff? Lolrite. Nerf this skill, buff that one, wait 3 days for new wiki build, rinse, repeat.)
- There will be new content for GW1, but the definition of "content" may varies from player to player. Mainly new content will expend the story of GW1 and will build a bridge to GW2.
- They may expand the Test Krewe.
- HB and TA will not return.
(Good, that might be 'too much' PvP content for these 'mindblown' players that can't figure out a build.)
- Even negative feedback has something positive; if people criticize a game it means they're (still) interested into it.
(Or maybe we haven't found a good enough game to play, which is my story personally. I still play GW, dont like it much, only play it to rage in vent for HA/AB.)
- There will be something special for the 5th birthday.
- New costumes are very likely.
(We are trying to get new money based off it being our 5th Birthday.)
- HoM will be account based in GW2. One GW2 account will be abled to linked to another GW1 accont. With a special item you will be able to enter a instance of the HoM. There are no informations what the bonuses are at this point.
(You will have to buy said item in our NCsoft store that fails at paypal, and then use it to get elite bonuses if you spend time maxing shit in GW1.)
- They seriously consider to enable player organized tournaments. It hasn't made clear if they also consider if players will be able to make custom maps.
(We are cloning WoW, but taking it a step further. Instead of gamebreaking mods and other bullshit, we are gonna let you CREATE even more mods, and even maps! I smell abuse from programmers a mile away.)
- There isn't a easy way to show who is online in the alliance guilds, so it's very unlikely it will be implemented in GW1.
- The build system in GW2 will be similar to GW1; you can make a build out of different possibilities.
(You can make a build out of different possibilities. Either this wasn't translated right, or someone needs to fire this guys ass for saying that statement. Welcome to the world of MMO gaming, you can make a build out of different possibilities!)

I consider myself a long time gamer now, and this is what I got. No, I'm not unchamping A-Net, I just look at their track record, compare to other MMO's, and voila. Got this conclusion.

WoW i hear people telling me that GW1guru is filled only with trolls and negative people but i didnt believe it. I guess its true. I mean come on! Whats with the bitchy attitude? Lets get this one by one:

1)
Quote:

There are hundrends of possible viable builds in the game. The problem is that most of the playerbase are too LAZY to think their own. They just go to wikia and copy one.

2)
Quote:

You forgot JQ, FA and codex arena.

3)
Quote:

When you got that many skills it is expected. Thats why they are reducing them in GW2.

4)
Quote:

Dont buy them, end of story.

5)

So you judge something you havent play? People should get over that "wow clone" syndrome. Its not the first MMO ffs.

If you are taking the time to say it on a Guild Wars fansite, then by definition you are a Guild Wars fan. If you had no interest in the game you would be whining about some other game, on some other forum.

The-Bigz, all I have to say is:

You're baaaaeeeed. And a big fat liar at that. If you don't know high-rankers in HA personally, you won't get in. Even if you ask nicely. As simple as that.

Eugh. That's called depth. It allows a player to develop, to become skilled and knowledgeable about the game.
I won't say reducing the number of skills is a bad thing, but I don't buy your reasoning. The players weren't crushed by the sheer number of skills, but the development team and whoever had a go at balancing certainly were.

Oh goodie...new costumes to buy. That means the live team has their focus locked on to the suckers that bought the wintersday ones. Now they can begin to milk them at regular intervals!

Meanwhile, bugs like the one in JQ that stops turtles/juggies get pushed to the back burner again?
