Hey, I just got GW trilogy and Im loving it! There is just one problem... When I run the game I get 5-9 FPS. The thing is I have a Nvidia GeForce 6200 256MB (Best I can get for a PCI slot) I have played (I wont say names for obvious reasons XD) games with better graphics (Such as FPS games) with NO lag I got around 90 FPS on my favorite FPS. I put on GW and I get HORRIBLE lag. Changing the graphics dosent do a single thing if Im at worse graphics with 800x600 res I get 5-9 FPS. If Im at best graphics with 1024x768 res I get 5-9 FPS :/ Ive tried installing older versions of my driver but nothing helped so I put on the latest version and still nothing. Thanks for reading this!

How much ram do you have and do you run Guild Wars in a window?

your options are pretty limited. I'd start with:
turn off v-sync
turn off post processing
try the -noshaders switch

If I do those I get around 10 FPS :/ Im wondering if I can change anything relating to DX9/8? (I can use either)

you can force the game to run in dx 8 and with no shaders via
-dx8 -noshaders
also as stated running in windowed mode is probably hitting you performance wise.

If you're lucky you might see the mid 20's all by your lonesome. in a -busy- town or outpost, forget about it.

Ok In Ascalon City I get 7 FPS (Not a surprise) and fighting in Old Ascalon I get about 8-10 :/ So its a bit better but not great. Im using Ubuntu 9.10 but that isnt the problem because as I said changing the graphics dosent effect my FPS much or at all. (Also the games I play with WINE have no trouble its only GW and some of the others also use DX with no trouble) Ive heard of defragging but I dont know if that will help?

Im stuck with Ubuntu :P Ive never heard of anyone having the trouble that Im having with a WORSE card on Ubuntu :/ Thats why Im thinking it has nothing to do with Ubuntu.

PS - Ive heard more stories about Windows 7 having issues with GW then Ubuntu

Was great in full screen, but as soon as I made those changes I was able to run it windowed with no problem.

linux is not meant for gaming. if you want to game, use windows. even with my desktop (with very good hardware), GW ran at 3 fps under ubuntu, even after i've fiddled with it for hours. on windows, it ran at 300 fps.

You only have a couple of options:

1. Find a better PCI video card (not likely);

2. Buy a new computer that can take a PCI-e video card.

Why wouldn't you name the games? This isn't the sort of site where you'll get banned for mentioning other games that aren't GW related. In fact there is a whole sub-forum for discussing Off-Topic things including other games people play.

You are EMULATING GW on a non GW friendly platform. Now, I understand other games may work right with it and I know that is what the emulator is for. Believe me, I tried running GW on Mac OS X and quit back to Windows with bootcamp. But seriously/realistically...

I would seriously consider partitioning yourself a little space for Windows and GW on your PC, and I'm sure you can pick up a cheapish copy of XP on ebay with a legit serial key (since they dont sell XP retail anymore).

I wouldn't bother with Windows 7 on that system, XP will use less resources. I still use XP and it works great. I'll upgrade when I get a new PC or when I am literally forced to. F Windows 7.
