It's been pretty fun, did 10 games with 2 different teams.
And is it just me or is the CB INFESTED with sins? They really are OP and I haven't seen a team with less than 2 at any time.

HA! Bullshit. If a team lets you split and cap the whole game, they deserve to lose. This isn't HB with gimmiky Recall teles and stances to just run the whole game. Its set builds. If you can't split and force the other team into an advantageous or even an even fight, then you should uninstall BuildWars. Seriously.
Every single map is small enough that its simple to force the opponent into a corner and have to fight. Rangers with pin down even for a very subpar build. Eles with hex snare. Sins with PS. Warriors with Bulls. Mesmers with E Burden. I mean snares are easy to come by. Even if somehow you can't snare them just split around then and force them together and fight 5v5. If they choose to run you stay and win the 4v5 or 3v5, because they won't all retreat. CB is aptly named BRAWL for a reason. You fight, you win. You kill, you win. You try to just cap, odds are you'll get build wars'd and lose. Run Sins. Run Mesmer. And pray you don't get a team that sucks. If you have to rely on splits and capping to win your games, your team build either sucks or your bad at this game. @howlinghobo: lawl. Kills are 1 point. Sins are OP. Morale is slow. Hmmmmm how do i win this game again??? Every time you load in, the first look shoud be at the party window. What professions are on my team? Then assume they can mash their face on the keyboard and c-space. If its K-Shore just rush middle. Else split 3-2 and evaluate the other team. If the build wars is in your favor, fight, win, regroup, and proceed to roll the other team. If build wars is not in your favor, you can retreat run, and try and split until it is in your favor. Once it is, kill, get the advantage, and wipe the rest of the team. Repeat until win. If you lose, its because someone was unable to successful roll their face on their keyboard and kill something. Yes i just simplified the entirety of CB into that one paragraph. BECAUSE IT CAN BE. You kill something you have automatic advantage. You kill again you have even more advantage next thing you know you're winning 5-1. Capping is ONLY advantageous if you going to lose build wars 5 on 5. In the end, YOU STILL HAVE TO KILL. If not you're going to be killed. And guess what then your at the disadvantage. So yea call me bad. My six 10+ win streaks (high of 22 - someone left and we got a really terribaed player), many of which i've led tactics for and won multiple comeback games, begs to differ. Now thats to say i'm not going to sit at a shrine and cap it. I'll cap it if i feel its advantageous to the team or myself. However it comes secondary to splitting and forcing favorable matchups. Say 3 split to battlecry on Pikkup or Rapids. They send two and they retreat. I'm going to stay and cap battlecry because then i have speed to catch the 2 retreating. At the same time, (hopefully) my other two players recognize they are outnumbered, fall back on to the other two players and force them into a 5v2. The other 3 will surely follow, behind but it should be too late, and then it'll be a 5v3. Possibly lose a player or tow, if a sin doesn't lineback or if Ele spike out a target, or general lack of heal support. But in the end your up 5-1 or 5-2. And you can force the game in your favor. Whether its resplit or force a fight. I said it before, I'll say it again. Capping only promotes better tactical play and character bonuses. You do not win by out capping. You win by out manuevering and killing your opponents. You don't kill, you don't win. |
The shrines are what lets you kill, unless you have obscene class/skill advantage the health shrines are critical. If I choose to fight with health shrine control there is no way you can beat me. Your only option is to cap the other shrines and get more ticks, forcing me into leaving my health shrines. You take the opportunity to recap the health shrines and the cycle goes on. The only reason you win through your method is because your fights are executed so poorly with c spacing (by people in suboptimal classes) that somehow the enormous advantage of shrines do not turn fights completely into your favour.
Assassins are not just overpowered because they can kill you 1 on 1, in reality they are overpowered because of the threat that this ability represents and thus forces you to move on rather than defend an advantageous position.
I have played Costume Brawl today and had much fun, especially on my 12 game winning streak. Played as ele, and I have to admit, it was easy for me. As some people have said, mesmers are the only threat.
Sins do use sig of malice, but when you see them using it, just instantly re-apply the blind and they can't do anything, or try to maneuver by snaring and getting away, dealing some damage, then repeating the process. When his death charge recharges, blind again and repeat..

yea ranger's cripple and poison is pretty beast. mesmer pretty much scares anything away. monk's healing is beast. rts can be almost ignored. wars are solid tankers. eles got a decent support build. paras???? dervs do some decent dmg.
so just don't do rt or para imo. |
Overall, I say this year is pretty balanced. Only dervishes are a tad underpowered, and sins are OP. Mesmers are only OPed in the hands of a good player, and we all know those are kinda rare in Costume Brawl.
my friends and i sync'ed 5 sins. it definitely wasn't that great. only good for spiking noobs that like to run away from their team.
we then did 4 sins and an ele. it was better in every way. but we still lost to balanced teams, even with all of us on vent etc. sins need the battle cry shrine so bad because they have no speed boost. lots of the classes also have ways to disrupt their skill chain. the only bars i don't think are effective are para and rit. all others have good aspects.

I'm not getting angry or anything, just wondering. I do agree with paras being subpar.

Hmmm. Haven't decided what to play this year - usually ran mez (or rit) last year, but I just can't bring myself to run a blah illusion degen bar. Rit is not as super-fantastico as before, but it seems fairly balanced; I've been able to hold off 4 members of the opposing team alone for about 15-45 seconds depending on who I'm facing and whether or not I have my spirits up. I may try dervish though.
Sins I have surprisingly not had as much trouble with this year as would be expected, at least on the rit. Usually I can heal myself and damage them enough that they run away or that I can kill them, though a couple of times when caught without my spirits I've needed help. For me dervishes have been the real problem.
Toyed around with monk a bit too. All the Jesus Beams were getting a bit annoying so I decided to return some of my own. Bane Signet is pretty reasonable for pissing off sins. Healing Breeze, though? What is the purpose of that other than to give dervs something to use Aura Slicer on?
And did they trash that one 3-shrine map? I keep running into the other two but not it.

I've running a sin today and getting kills is quite easy. For some reason I had alot of trouble with dervs, but with some help they went down. Ele's who understood how to use their snares and kite were a pain, but because they had to keep kiting they couldnt really kill me either. Blinding Flash is easily countered with Signet of Malice. The rest of them went down pretty fast.
Started at 1370 Gamer points today and am now at 1840, My highest streak is 18 with a reasonably balanced team. Sin+Rit was lethal. Sin+monk worked nicely when I could cripple or KD them in a ray. Other then that I just tried to spike down wichever target was being attacked by any of my teammates.

Alright. I understand so many people are agreeing that rits are underpowered. Surprisingly, the first few matches proved that until I kinda got the rythm of it. I got teamed with 2 sins, an ele, and a mesmer. We got 22 consecutive victories and a few flawless matches lol. I'm just saying that I believe its the balanced teams that really win constantly. Smart team-mates and common sense = win
