I don't see the value in items

Yesterday I was hawking for a Halves casting time 20% for an offhand I have and some dude came back with 40k real quickly over PM. lol 40k? Are you kidding me? Plus the cost of some of these items in the 100's of ectos?? Why pay that for some silly looking skin? You can buy a perfect anything from a weapon smith, slap a couple of mods on it and wallah you have a perfect weapon just the same as some 800 ecto item. I guess that is the status symbol of leetness in this game since it really has no power elements or anything of any significant value other than vanity. Someone got a super claw of leetness looks so they are better than you syndrome?? lol

Titles appear about the same there's only really a handful worth going after: Treasure hunter, Wisdom, Lucky I guess, Sunspear/Lightbringer, one of the two Faction ones Kurzick or Luxon and then the GWEN faction titles for Norn, Asura and Human? Only those that benefit actual skills used and improve treasure hunting skills and less breakage of keys are worth going after. I just don't see wasting time or money going after drunkard, survivor, sweet-tooth, tinkerbell in tights or any of those other senseless childish titles. If all titles gave some advantage within the game then I could see going after them. But, there are so few that do.

And thats why those items have value cuz ppl want them cuz they are leet-looking and are rare or hard to obtain.

Although really I agree that most things in GW arent worth spending much money on as u can get by on just a average weapon with the same stat. For my opinion Titles and anything going into the HoM are worth the money. Although I do occassionally splurge on other stuff just because.

Yeah, I've always found it really stupid. Especially Crystalline Sword...it's ugly as my ass.

It always amuses me though...nine times out of ten, when someone buys expensive armor, they will dye it black. I've actually had people in game say "lol you are bad, why is your armor green?".

It's all about the bling. Those rare weapons, for the most part, are nothing more than status symbols. It doesn't matter how ugly or silly looking (Voltaic Spears), the thing is, if it's hard to come by, people will want it.

As for titles, they're time killers. They give lots of players who would have left the game long ago a reason to stick around. The only true value they have (in PvE, anyway) is in the eye of the title holder, as he/she is the only one that knows how they got their titles (Did they get that LS by running Kilroys? Or did they get it by playing through the game and taking on bosses to capture their elites?)

Most titles and elite armors do give a long-term benefit: They can be stored in your HOM and thus carry over to GW2 in some way.

It's a shame that we can't store more cool weapons in there though, I really like the looks of the Celestial weapons set, most Tormented and Destroyer weapons are just ugly IMO.

GW was designed not to be grind though, thus there isn't much of a power gap between newer players and the ones that have it all. It's about skill, not about grind. Then again with the EOTN titles that kinda changed, but I suppose that was done on purpose to keep people occupied till GW2.

I agree with OP entirely.

It gives quite a bad impression for the newcomers. As if the only purpose of the game were grind for titles and some leet looking gear. Now when I am looking after a weapon I make sure it is not one of those "special" ones so I do not have to overpay for rarity/skin or whatever and spent money elsewhere.

This is why I don't care about gold or items. I don't get why anybody would want to waste so much time/money on just looks... it's not like you're getting anything out of it. Titles and playing PvE with another character is another thing too.

And if I got it right, someone asked you 40k for the mod? 40k is too much for a mod that's worth only 3-4k.

I just sold a shield thats been sitting in my storage for nearly 3 years and that I'd almost given away on several occasions for 750e, yes, 750 ecto's.
It was a nice shield, Echovald req 8, but did I ever in my wildest dreams expect it would fetch that much? Hell no. I was hoping for 100K actually

Do I have any idea why anyone wanted to pay that much? Not really no, I assume he/she collected shield of that type and wanted it for that reason and he/she had the ecto's to afford it. Yes, its rare to find a perfect one with req 8 but still, its an awful lot to pay for it.

Collectors go to great lengths to obtain what they desire, this is a prime example of it.

Surprised OP didn't mention Minipets.

Yes, no item gives you, unlike some other games, an advantage, its merely cosmetic and you can get perfect stats nowadays for peanuts.
I'm guilty of it myself, I just love the Draconic Aegis so I bought one, it wasnt any better than my old shield, I just wanted the skin. So, I paid 100K +xx for the priviledge.

But then, who am I to gainsay someone for wanting skin X or Y if they are willing to pay for it. If someone has fun collecting then more power to them, it keeps the economy in GW going

Most overfarmed shit in the game, kamadan is full of them, they are everywhere and everyone has one. It's become the most farmed and most common item.

People just buy the most expensive things, no matter how gaudy it looks. I don't understand it either. I guess its because you can't argue over how to best min/max your gear in GW, people have to redirect their epeens into graphics.

For me, a lot of the "boring" skins look the best, like embossed scythes or vabbian tower shields. Also monks dyeing everything black baffles me; monks are about purity and healing, whites and blues.

Honestly, the OPs post harks of the same superiority complex that he's attaching to those interested in high-end goods and he's written it like it's some kind of profound wisdom. It's a little silly.

Simple fact: people like a sense of achievement with their online gaming, and rare items and max titles provide this. For those not interested in the Pvp metagame, these are some of the things that PvE players can work toward.

Of course, anyone who considers themselves better simply for owning a rarer item or title is just as much a wally as the OP.

Have you tried to farm one? The reason they're expensive is because the drop rate is extraordinarily low.

Now, you might see 100 separate 'wts BDS' instances, but there are x10 that amount of people who want one. Supply and Demand, hence the high price.

And obtaining the 100e+ you need for one, especially at this point in the game, is a very easy task. There's really no need to complain.

I think we can pretty safely assume that the OP is lying and using this example as a cheap way to further his obvious point.
