 To be honest, this was something that I was considering when I was wondering why elementalist skimpy annoys me more than ritualist skimpy. It basically boiled down to them coming from skimpy from opposite sides - the female Ritualists dress as if skin above the waist isn't something they care about themselves and they're just putting something on to avoid scandalising everyone else (like in some Pacific islands - or so I'm led to believe). Elementalists, however, give more of an impression of wearing as little as they dare and then adding useless frills to draw attention to how little is covered. In short, Ritualist wear looks like utilitarian clothes from a culture that just doesn't wear that much in the first place. Elementalist wear, however, looks like the girl just got out of a harem. |

Agreed, although I don't tend to see modesty and sexiness as opposites on a spectrum - it's perfectly possible for a girl to be sexy while dressing modestly (by conservative Western standards, anyway - that full-body Islamic thing that I forget the name of is something entirely different). Instead, I tend to view the spectrum as being one of elegance verses, to choose a less loaded term than the one I'd use in my head, skimpiness.
