Would you say Double PvP weekends... work?

Over the last couple of double weekends I've noticed that some of them have been very successful in my opinion. On Sunday, there were 5 international districts in Heroes Ascent! It hasn't had that many districts (excluding 2x fame weekends) in a while. As far as GvG goes, I've noticed some PvE guilds and FFF guild have given it a try or to. I think that the 2x weekends are ultimately made to cater to players that had no interest in the area. For example, a PvE'r that wanted another title for their HoM would think, well... of all the PvP titles, commanders the easiest. I only need 100 points for champion, but that damned hero title... 2800 points? Comon Anet! But when they give one of those weekends a try and realized they went from having 21fame to 148 fame, they think... hmmm, that wasn't that bad. I bet you I could get this title done before GW2! Just wait, I'll be the first person in my guild to become a Vanquishing Hero!

This thread is to discuss, would you say your more interested in "INSERT PVP PLACE HERE" because of a 2x boost?

You make 5 international districts sound like a lot. Back in the old days there were probably 12+ american districts during the day (single fame).

Of course double weekends attract people...they attract people who are there simply to farm as opposed to actually enjoying the play there. Thats why the place emptys out as soon as the weekend is over.

I know that. That's why I'm saying 5 is alot, because it doesn't break 3 on most weekends.

I certainly became a lot more interested in HB over the rewards weekend a few months ago and my interest was held for a couple of months following. However, I've kinda lost interest now and I didnt participate in the one a couple of weeks ago.

The same with HA. The problem is that once the weekend is over the difficulty in finding a team comes back, HA in particular is difficult to find a team if you're not in a PvP oriented Guild/Alliance, same with GvG I guess (if not more so). That in mind I'm still stuck at 10 fame... not far till I get my dragon!

I pretty much only do AB/RA weekends. Since theres a lot of people there and less morons. I might do HA weekends if I want to run the build of the week and watch people rage c:

But I do think they work since I see lots more people PvPing during them.

Instead of doubling crap rewards, that only interest grinders, why not implement real rewards, that interest everyone.

Double fame weekend! O WOW, like I care.
Double glad point weekend! Dont care

Tangible rewards, like money/items/unique pvp unlockable skins for pve characters etc etc etc. Cool

By the way, remove cap points, put sacred temples back.

take your cap point suggestion to the HA forum, many will agree. Besides that........ plzzz no devauling of the already cheap weapons that used to be good. voltaic will be 10k by october.

I mentioned unique skins, not already existing skins. Obviously they would have to build new skins for it, but they dont need to be fancy like voltaic spears with animations.

Its not that much work to put in new armor/weapon skins every month or two, especially since they dont need to be flashy, just different.

They already have a system in place that can be converted for use (unlocking skins for pvp characters), just need to alter the same system to have some new gear, that gets generated (and instantly customized) for a pve character.

In a game like guild wars, being able to customize looks is everything since gear doesnt matter, it would generate real interest if suddenly warriors had more options than big bulky crap with spikes, but instead to things like chainmail.

If eles had options to things instead of robes and pansy pants, but actual leggings and a tunic.

TL DR
Gear is important in everygame, look at wow even, gear is everything there. Gear is just as important in guild wars, but for looks, not stats. Give more options, and make them unlockable for pve characters from pvp.

Funny, it had the opposite effect on me.

2 points per hour? 180 points to get a ranked team? screw this.

Depends for what, IMO.

I mean they seem to work 'cause there indeed was a lot of D's past double fame weekend. So yeah, in general, it's nice.

Never really been effective for me 'cause I'm in a mostly PvE allianve with a small amount of PvP (mainly AB, and we only have a few dedicated ABers) so forming groups with PUGs comes down to a matter of luck. We did unranked groups and my fame went from 43 to 50-something (55 or 57 I believe, no access to GW right now).

AB weekends are rather successful from my side though, since we usually have 2 alliance teams running.

As for HB, GvG and RA/TA... I've got no interest in those titles so they don't have many effects on me.

TBH, I typically avoid PvP areas on those weekends. I TA and GvG alot, HA sometimes and when I spend a "Double Reward" weekend in TA or HA faceing the same OP gimmick no skill crap 99% of the matches it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Last TA weekend I was going to push for r5 but after 8 matches in a row vs Smite/RaOway (some won some lost) I left.

HB weekends are no fun, I enter the match my opponent syas "wanna roll?" so I say "No" so they say "Noob" and leave. How much fun is that?

Also I kinda think there were 5 IDs this weekend to see Starcraft and his Dragon, not so much for people playing.

All double weekends like that just convince me to set aside some time on those weekends that I would have otherwise spent doing something else. Why any incentive?

I play AB because I enjoy AB and the people I play with.
I play HA because I enjoy HA and the people I play with.
I play TA because I enjoy TA and the people I play with.
I play GvG because I enjoy GvG and the people I play with.

Do you notice a pattern?

I don't play for the faction, I don't play for the rank. The fact I get rank (however long it may be at this point) and faction is nice, but I don't care that much for them. As lame as I think the formats are or can be, and as lame as I think the people playing them can be. I still enjoy them and the people I play with enough to continue playing them.

The reason that people don't play those formats is because they don't enjoy the formats or the people they get to to play with, and you can offer however many shiny and unique rewards for them as you want, but it won't matter. We're stuck with a combination of the people that enjoy the format and the people the grind the rank.

Yes, double weekends bring out my friends and people with less interest in the respective format, but they also bring out the worst kind of grinders. I'm half inclined to say that you should just get rid of rank, get rid of rewards, and get rid of the shitters that plague these formats. Force people to play the formats for their merits (or lack thereof).

If you ask me, the only thing that should have a reward is GvG tournaments, mAT / seasonal, top 8, cash prizes, with maybe smaller prizes for top 16. Screw everyone else. I'll gladly forfeit my glad / hero titles and nearly 7 million balt faction for this, I don't wear them anyways anymore so why do I even care?

The sad truth is though, if you don't offer some kind of "incentive" beyond the format for people to play, they won't play, so my argument is probably shit. If you force people to play the format for the format and the people they play with, you'd probably find numbers drop to maybe 25% of the present levels.

it works in the sense that it gets new players to pvp interested in pvp.

it fails in the sense that it makes pvp titles (lower rank) worthless since all it takes is a few weekends to get a decent amount of fame (i have a friend who got r5/6 after 2 double fame weekends and a random Hway when bored).

if anet wants it to mean something, why would they give it away so easily (especially if youre smart enough to run anti-meta... which basically means beat hway and you win)?

edit: i agree with Sun Fired Blank also.

Yeah, that had nothing to do with the fact that people thought they'd be able to see the rank 15 emote for themselves.

Nothing at all.

I didn't even think of that, plus at the time STAR WASN'T ON. I haven't even seen the emote yet, but he was on my friends list and wasn't online. So obviously... it wasn't that.

I always join in the double AB and Hero Battle weekends. That's about the only time I PvP!
