What happened to Ecto and Shard Prices

ehm, more ecto just means there's more people buying obsidian armour sets, and since no one hoards shards you have to buy them from the trader eventually making their price go up.... it's not rocket science nor id it anet "tampering" with the economy.

really? i dont think so, back when there were no perma sins, shards dropped like crazy and i mean like atleast 5 per run+ end game chest, while the only ectos that saw the daylight were the ones droppping for the terra tanks( occasional drop for normal folks too). also they only drop in Uw and Tombs not just any eilte area. oh and as a side note, the gw economy is getting waay out of hand, those who has stacks of ectos (i hate them but do feel pity) just lost possible hundreds of thousands. i really hope a-net make another update or gw 1 will become %&$#

You know it really breaks my heart to see someone with stacks of ectos lose a few hundres thousand gold. I don't think the price of ecto will fall much more - even if it does at least some more people who normally wouldn't have been able to get some of the nicer things can now. This isn't all bad. The people who have had all the money have had plenty of time to get what they wanted. IMO its time for everyone else to be able to afford a few things.

ofc its not all bad, im all for ppl being able to get obi set and choas gloves and what not, but what will be the point if you don't actually have to work towards them? in a few months most ppl will have obi sets and the e-peen boost it gives will go down and so why buy it? imo most fow sets suck with the exception of monk para and 1 or 2 more profs. so with them being extremely easy to buy ppl will stop buying them. and what about weps that were +45 ectos those will go up and remeber not everyone farms, there are those who farm 7-8 hours per day, those who farm a couple of hours a day and those who want to do something other than farming

gee ecto dropping...shards are meh....
so what will people use instead of ecto for trading --armbraces again????

Before WoH got buffed, I was hyperspeed farming FoW HM with my 600 monk and smiter hero.

The WoH buff to allow it to target the caster kind of completely killed this because shadow priests never seem to die anymore

Anet never said or promised that ectoes would maintain any certain value. If people used them like cash that was THEIR fault and they just GAMBLED on the economy and them being a stable price always. Welp that's the way the cookie crumbles and people just lost cash just like the do in the stock market in rl everyday. But, welp now they can invest in shards or zashien keys since they are going for 5k+ nowadays because of the zashien chest and now those everlasting tonics. Tonics are probably way more rare than ectoes will ever be so there's value in them thar zashien keys for quite some time now.

I think some of the pressure on the price of ecto will fall off when the favor is gone. If it doesn't then something else will take the place of ecto for currency.

So, if ANet knows what's good for the economy, they won't have a title event this weekend (The favor is due to run out in a little over 2 days). Right?

I think the favor is still ~5700 minutes. Means 4 days when nobody maxes a title. I'd say favor won't run out for the next week.

Mr. Permasin gos farming with hsi buddy Mr. Farmtomuch. Mr. Permasin sell shis ectos dropping price, Mr Farmtomuch wants Obby armor to feel leet so he gos to buy shards, uping price. Now multipky Mr&Mr by however many sins are out there farming and you have the shift.

I would venture to say with the influx of Perma form farmers they are farming alot of ectos and buying shards in quatity from trader since its faster and they are getting alot of ectos per run. So shards go up and ectos go down because im willing to bet a good portion of the people who buy shards at trader just sold ecto to trader as well.

increase in shard price is pretty funny. Since uw is so easy and you can make so much all the HM fow and ursan groups have left to make sins.

for the longest time, ecto incriments were 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, etc.

they recently changed it to 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, etc.

basically added 5.0 which was previously never a possible ecto price.
this price update helped lower ecto value.

as far as shards are concerned, its obvious there are less shards on the market, and people need em for FoW armor. people who never had 30+ ectos now have 300+, and are eager to get their armor. so eager they will buy at merch to get it today =)

Ectos dip to 4.5k at the trader a short while ago before moving back to 4.8k. The increment is more like 4.5k, 4.8k, 5.0k, 5.5k now.

i say we should stock up on ectos when the prices r low and when gw2 comes up hopefully sf farmers will quit playing gw for a lil bit and prices go up

Ecto prices: Perma-sin became easier to do (it was already doable) and major farming started. This, alone, actually had very little effect on supply (since it was already astronomical), and therefore little effect on price. Idiots started panicking that the sky was falling (check out a dozen threads on the topic here) and selling off their ectos/not making ecto purchases they otherwise would. That moved the price down a little.

Shards: Perma-sins want their FoW armor. They can farm the ectos, but they buy the shards. Since people who were never in the market for FoW suddenly are, price increased along with demand.

Because Ectos are just as farmable as Shards, and you get more gold for them in the long run. More Ectos being milked, and not being put back into the economy.

Also, hundreds of people are going "I want FoW armor, and I have 500 Ectos, and no Shards. I know! I'll sell some Ecto to players and buy Shards from the trader!" Thus, Shard prices go up, and more Ectos are being milked and not put back in.

This was bound to happen after Ursan and SF went unchecked by devs.

Exactly. This game is 3 years old now and UW has been farmed for ectos since it was created. This influx of new ectos is a very small percentage of whats already out there. I think the reason for the price dip is because of sellers trying to undercut each other to make a quick sale. If people would all sell just under the merchant price (and the same as each other) then it would stay stable.

a nother thing to add some1 wit tons of money should take 1 for the team buy 7 stacks of ectos from the trader and be consider a hero of gw econmy for about 1 week
