Will I Miss this Year's Dragon Festival?

Hi,

My very favorite GW's festival, that I have been looking forward to all year is the Dragon Festival (I guess because it was my first) . I just LOVE this festival and have been preparing for it, even to the extent of taking a character out of Presearing just to go to it.

However, my brother is getting married and since I live abroad, I will be flying back to Canada on July 4th and coming back July 18th.

I will not be around a computer then and I will be too busy to worry about GW's during that time. However, I am extremely worried that I will miss my favorite festival that I have been waiting for.

Therefore, I would really like to know if the Dragon Festival will be at the end of June again, as it was the first year, or will it be late again and therefore at the beginning of July, which would be a real bummer?

I really would liked to have seen an advance event calendar because had I seen something like that, I could have planned my trip better. For example, I could have arranged for tickets after the first weekend and stayed a little longer in the end.

So far the timing is unknown, there hasn't been any announcement that I am aware of.
I can't work out why the timing was different from '06 to '07, but looking at the dates of both, if I had to predict the dates for this year's festival (assuming there will be one) I would say 3rd to 6th of July with the finale on the 6th, and the collector npc for the hat being around for one week afterward. This is of course just my personal speculation.

To be earlier the finale events would have to occur on the 29th of June (finales are always Sundays now as far as I am aware), which would be before either of the other festivals began.

Independence day (which is common knowledge to many non-americans like myself) is the 4th of July.
The 2007 Dragon festival did not include the 4th (it was 5th-8th).

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info. I should have been able to figure this out for myself.

Well, this is helpful for future Dragon Festival events. Too bad it is not so good for me this year. Big bummer - oh well. I will try to find a way to get on a computer in Canada at some point, I guess.

Whilst this seems a plausable theory, the 4th July 2007 was in terms of weekdays equidistant from each weekend, the sunday on which the finale occurred would therefore have actually been closer to the 4th if the previous weekend had been chosen. Additionally, using the weekend before the one actually chosen would have made the dates much closer to those of the previous year's festival.
This means that saying the closest weekend is not sufficient to fully determine when the festival should occur.

However, this year there should be no such issue, the 4th is clearly closer to the weekend following than that preceding.

(In reality I'm probably just trying to be far too rigorous, and you should just ignore most of what I say).

the Redux last year was only held as compensation for the insane server lag of the inital running of the event.

Last day is the 4th right?

i remember the first year there was such a big confusion :P

First year was best, I think. Wasn't liking the re-enactment of the first festival.

I'd be very surprised if the last day was the 4th, neither of the previous 2 have ended on the 4th, and I can't think of any festival that ended on a Friday.

Yeah. Not to mention all those guys afk on the rings, leaving me over 130 presents at 4am. Good times indeed.
