Hi all. Not sure if this idea has been posted before. I'm too lazy to search the forum to check.
Recently a guildie had his account 'hacked' and had all his stuff and characters deleted. This got me thinking of ways to recover from this kind of catastrophe.
I agree, restoring characters is really open to exploit. Salvage your armour, delete your character then run crying to ANet to get a character un-deleted complete with a new set of armour to salvage. I know, this is a really crappy way to get materials but it's an exploit. And that is wrong!
The best way I thought up to get around this malarky is for ANet to offer a one-time payment to 'protect' your characters, xp and titles. Nothing else. You lose all cash, items and armour that was on the deleted character, but you get the character back.
With the money this would generate, ANet would easily be able to set up a system to take a snapshot of your character and what you've done and save it to a protected server. For an extra charge they could also re-snapshot you every month, just to keep things up to date (ish).
OK, that's the idea. Please... discuss...
