The following is simply a list of observations I've made in my few months playing gw.
But first some context. I'm not a total newb:
-I played many many console RPG's, Final Fantasy series, Zelda series, Dragon Warrior series... to name a few.
-I've got 10+years of playing online multiplayer games: half life 1 mods, half life 2 mods, quake 3, duke nukem LOL, age of empires2, battlefield 2, WC3... to name a few.
-You wouldn't know I'm a newb in game: My most played Character: "Slayer of Concepts" is lvl 20 'Slayer of All' with 2 pieces of FoW Armor, and at 51 days old, has more than 3 million xp, he wields a q9 Clockwork Scythe. I have 4 more LVL 20's (mo, wa, me, pa) and I began my GW career by leveling a mesmer and beating the prophecies campaign with her, yes I chose mesmer as my first class, ever
. So sufficed to say I know GW fairly well, but timewise, and more importantly experience wise, I'm still a total newb.So here's my observations thus far.
-I don't get why people can be reported for swearing, as there is a swearing filter built into the game engine. The fact that A-net kicks and bans for swearing is beyond me as it actually invalidates the work that went into developing and implementing the anti swearing system, making it a waste of A-net's own time and money. This behavior is goes against business ethics as customer's/player's in the GW world we invest in A-net's financial viability. It's success as a company means a better gaming experience for us, however when the company behaves in a way that it actually devalues the work of it's own employees, for the sake of saving a few lazy or unobservant customers, the overall improving quality of our gaming experiences could be at stake. I hope for all our sake this is not indicative of A-net's over all appreciation for the contribution of it's employees.
(Don't report ppl for swearing, turn filter on)
-The great ursanway debate.
As you can see I'm a 'slayer of all' so I'm sure some of you assuming there's going to be some bias in my following arguments. I'd like to take a moment to point out that this assumption is actually the first act of bias, as you need to wait for my argument's specifics and their relation to the conclusion to see if I'm really being bias or not.
- The number 1 premises given by critics of ursanway seems to be that it is simply button mashing and requires no skill. That it's a grind and that it's the final salvation of all things newbish. Here's why I tend to disagree:
1. Nobody gets to R8,9,10. Ursan by accident, ok? This takes a lot of time, and effort, either by way of handbook, dungeon guide, or just going out and farming rep. By comparison it is MUCH MUCH easier to buy an elite monk tome, get HB and then join any ursan way group.
2. I have been 55'ing, and 600/smiting, they are both waaaaay easier than ursan way lol. A good 55'er needs to pre cast 4 ench, toss on prot and some smite, and ur good to go. I've done both and 55ing alone is way easier than Ursan in a pug, yet i bet most of the people who call ursan easy, 55 all day long. as for 600/smiting, the smiter actually stands there out of aggro and does nothing, which the 600 MASHES sprit bond, and waits to spam spell breaker, all easier than running an ursan build; I have been kicked from FoW/UW many times because newbs can't find the back line(which I seem to ONLY ping), or dont know how to chain KD's and such to stop a key resurrection etc... anyone who says Ursan is easy, hasn't run often enough in a PuG lurlz...
-Finally for Ursanway:
-(some GW:EN spolers
There is no reason Ursanway can't be tied into the GW story line. The Charr have been able to harness the power of the Searing, the Asura have their gates, the dwarves can turn into stone... I think the Norn deserve to have an elite power which could turn the tide in a great war, don't you? Besides, ursan has no way of ruining the precious PvP balance. Now I'm done talking about ursan....-I think that A-net is missing out on a great opportunity with the Polymock. Imagine if we could have Polymock PvP? or imagine you could Polymock cap skills from all creatures you've killed in zone/create hybrid polymock creatures? A-net could add so much re playability to GW if they opened polymock up to PvP. The most efficient way to do this would be to add a 'Challenge to Polymock' button to the trade window or something, which is grayed out until both traders can Polymock.
Ok people, thanks for reading!
I hope you all share your thoughts whether you agree or disagree, I will be better for having read them, thanks!
