Random person in Tsunmi Village ( sp ?) to my Ranger : May I ask you a question.
Me : Sure
him : How did you get to be a level 12 with out picking a 2nd career?
me: Created char during Canthan holidays, just did every side mission & training mission.
him : Wow, I wish I could have done that.
Huh ?????
My other chars all come from NF so I'm not sure of the progressioin in Factions.
Is level 12 unusual before leaving the monastery?
I finished up all the missions and now I think I HAVE to pick a secondary before advancing any further.
I did notice the last couple missions all the enemies were at least 3 levels below me.
Level 12 in monastery

Thanks MisterB
How would I advance though ?
I can't find any more missions, except to pick a secondary profession.
In Nightfall it was easy to get my level 10 to EotN but I don't think my Factions Ranger can get there yet.
All the opponents I face are low-level and I'm getting practically zero points when i kill anything.

I have never created a Canthan character. My Core professions are Prophecies, and I have no interest in playing assassin or ritualist since trying them in the Factions preview event.
As far as I know, however, from glancing at the wiki, there does not seem to be a way to progress without taking a secondary in Cantha at this time. It may have been possible to leave the Shing Jea island via the Canthan ambassador guild hall "trick," or the mapping exploit bug, but I am unaware of any other means to circumvent the story progression in Cantha. If you want to continue playing your character, I recommend you take your secondary to continue.
As for leveling to 20, I believe you could just repeat the Canthan festival events to gain experience from higher level foes. You only gain exp if you defeat foes no less than 6 levels below you.

Which begs the question, what are you waiting for? There's very little to do on that island to begin with, so the sooner you're off the sooner you get to the most interesting Factions stuff. The characters I made in Factions got to the mainland by lvl 15-6. At lvl 12 you should already be on your way to Zen.

I created this char during the Canthan Holiday so I could hang out at the monestery and haven't really played the char since then.
I just wanted to get as many points (and tokens etc) as I could before picking a 2ndry or leaving the monestery.
I've been focusing on my ele trying to complete NF.
