It's a fact that this f2p game has a better economy then guildwars ATM.
I've been wonering how this comes, is it because of customizing armor?
I think theres really something going wrong with GW economy, share your toughts about this.
Sorry for my bad grammar.

I think the Economy on GW is very bad at the moment because of the loot change the last time much les items are dropped now so there is not much money to buy items... change loot back and the economy will live agian

I've played runescape a while, till i started playing gw, I like gw, but the price diffrence of weapons, armor etc is too small, and for some way too big, you should be able to get mony faster in gw. Not only that, i like the fact that theres an expensif armor, fow, but ALL other armors either cost 1,5,10 or 15k. i think the price should vary more, and maybe make players able to pay a certain price to recustomize an item.

Define: Good economy.

I can't do the comparison though as I don't know about economic in Runescape. But I still want to know what people consider good and see what to describe GW's economy as.

WRONG. The gw economy is like this. 0.01% (or less) can affort fow/... due to early start of playing/now powertrading because they have much mony.
some 50% has less then 50plat most of the time the other people can get much mony, but still won't be able to get anywhere near the 0.01% wich have stacks of ectos/armbraces/... Thats wrong.

I think the market is overflooded, instead of that theres shortage of rares.
You could get about 100+ gold items/dayly with the raptor farm, thats too much imo. Weapons should become rarer, Money should become easilyer made.

Because Runescape requires more skill of course.

I don't agree with you regarding FoW. It's a vanity item. And it's also a static item; something you can get by yourself without relying on somebody to get it first and sell it to you OR for some mobs to drop it (maybe for ecto, but I'm quite sure you can get enough ectos & shards from the trader npc).

I thought we're talking about in-game economy concerning, you know, tradings between players and prices of the things being traded and stuff.

Sadly, that's true. Any game has better economy AND requires more skill than GW PvE - WoW, Diablo 2, Ragnarok Online, Dungeon Runners, you name it.

May be 99% don't care about FoW armor and 0.99% care but don't have the time to work for it?

That would only be wrong if 99% of people were aiming to get FoW armor, which I highly doubt.

Any economy has tiers, GW's included. I would like to have a FoW armor, but I'm not spending enough time in GW to get to it. And I still consider GW's economy ok.

There are plenty of rares in the Ventari Forum and GWG auction website

Money is not the problem. People's greed is.

GW's new economy IMHO greatly helps new players to the game in getting basic items one "needs" to play the game.

On the other hand, GW was about obtaining prestige items, which is, unless a full time GW addict, next to in possible.

These changes, ie loot scaling, were toted as a way of hurting the gold sellers.

Loot scaling was told to us by ANET, that it would not hurt the casual farmmer.

Well, IMHO, I see these measures have only hurt players, gold sellers are still as active as ever.

If anything, by reducing the amount a player can make by playing the game, only encourages one to go to a web site and by gold.

As long as there is a demand, there will always be a supplier.

If GW wants to reduce the economy, thats fine, reduce the cost of fixed price items, ie Chaos Gloves, 75 ectos? Thats alot of time playing the game considering they hardly drop any more.

Runescape in no way, ever, can possibly require skill. The 'economy' is based on pressing buttons over and over.

However, there are actual items with worth, whereas a huge amount of the valuable drops in GW are now worth very little.

I think the economy is better actually than it was a year back. Think about it, most of the people on guru are rich players who can afford, expensive items, and are devastated at price drops. But most of the players who play gw and don't use guru and are poor compared to the "GWG users" but now, they can hapily afford items that they couldn't before. Remeber most of the GW community own less than 20k but now due to the price drops they can afford more. Back then the economic system of GW was much more elitist, now it is less, as prices of things have gone down.

I am not saying that the economic system of GW is great now and I think it still need a lot of work and neither am I saying that everyone should have lots of elite items unbder their belts. I am saying that the economy of GW is as such as you are either rich or poor, there are hardly any "mid-way" players.

What Anet need to do is produce more more "mid-way" items, to produce more mid way players, instead of creating more elite items. Then ther can be mid-way players, elite players and poor players.

At the moment elite players are suffering, poor players aren't noticing, mid-way players are getting their lucky break, but don't relise that their high will only last a short perios of time.

Anet should, of reduced the item prices to start of with,I agree with them for doing that, but if they carryon their will be a massive economic problem.

IT IS ANET'S FAULT """PRICES ARE GOING"""" DOWN NOT PLAYERS

Seems like people think that economy is crap because they cant sell somewhat crappy items for some quick money to fund buying rare stuff because market got flooded by somewhat crappy items. At least thats what i got from this thread.

That reminds me of "i dont have 50k for that item but i would like to trade three purple items, two battle comendations, 50 wood plans and 3k for it, ok?" people.

"Crap baseline" was raised, deal with the fact that gold color alone wont guarantee you sale. Not even low req will. If there is too much gold items just mech them. That solves both less cash you get from other drops AND abundance of golds.

I think the GW economy is good although I can't compare to any other cooperative online games. FoW armour is intended to be hard-to-get and 'exclusive' and this doesn't indicate a bad economy. Is the world's economy rubbish because I can't afford a bucket full of diamonds?

Well, after I quit RS, I still looked at the updates, and it seemed that the game's economy was near Great Depression level until December when the creators implemented some sort of trading post with set "market prices" (You can buy/sell items within 5% of the market price) that change over time based on what prices people buy/sell for. For example, if the Market Price was 1000 gold, you could buy/sell that item at a range of 950-1050. If everyone trades at 1050, the price would increase, and if its traded at 950, the price will decrease eventually. It made items more accessible to everyone, which helped a lot. I'm pretty sure that's why RS's economy is better than GW's at the moment. Oh, and RS has a few discontinued items from holiday events which are worth millions of gold, so that acts as a goal for rich people and keeps them from affecting the lower parts of the market. (We'd have this kind of thing in GW if the Yuletide Caps/Grenth Horns/Etc. were tradeable.) Plus, there isn't any "farming" aspect in RS (As we know it anyways...). Those factors pretty much make RS's economy near incomparable to GW's.

Oh, if that's what you called "bad economy" then I'd understand and totally agree.

Items in GW don't have much value mainly because unless you're a hardcore (or dedicated or whatever, sorry about my limited vocab) player who feels like he must has some "coolest-looking" items that don't help with your gameplay one bit, you won't need much money to play the game.

And what do you do when you don't see the need to have lots of money? You don't bother trading with people (and GW's trading system makes sure you don't want to do it unless it's really necessary or the items you have are seriously valuable).

So basically the economy largely depends on a small subset of total players; most of these people would've been farming/power trading/whatever for a long time anyway because they'd need a lot of money for some static vanities (15k armor? Vabbian? FoW?) to begin with. What does this mean? Rich players trading with rich players. New players who want to participate in such economy would have no way to get started unless they win the lottery and get some valuable stuff these rich players want.

This isn't good, I guess. But it has gotten to this point because you don't really need the economy to play this game (unlike some other games like, say, WoW), that even I, a poor player with some needs for vanity items and useless stuff, don't see the reason to fix it. Well maybe it'd be better if they can fix it. But without a good mean of player-to-player trading, I'd say don't bother.

That's how I see it anyway.

I think economy sucks cause there is too much money or everything is too cheap.. if Anet would make all mat and rune etc prices higher it would help bit + ofc delete ursan from other places then eotn
