The gold spammers appear to be using a method that designs random named bots using mostly random letter and number combinations.

We should, therefore, ban the use of these as new names.

Who uses AGGEADG ADOJOA as a name anyway?

Great idea, if this is a place to "sign", I'm totally ready. It just makes me mad, because you can ignore that one person, but every time your on, there seems to be a new one.

And if you don't want to use an English sounding name...?

"Aillig", "Aoidh", "Raoghnailt" to name but a few just look like a random collection of letters but are, in fact, Gaelic names. Why should people have odd sounding names banned for not looking "normal" enough? Who gets to decide what's "normal" or "allowed"?

Besides that, really stupid names like "Xx Ghghghghgh Xx" is like a filter...it says "This person is bad and should not be in your PuG".

/notsigned on that basis.

Americans useually

Don't like the idea, the bots or whatever makes the names will just switch to a list of words that are ok and use combo's of them

I like the idea so I'll /sign.

BUT: 1) it's not so easy to automatically check what a "randomised name" is and I doubt that Anet is willing to try; 2) these scammers will simply stop randomizing the names, it's no big deal for them.

Lol you can't because I was in a group with a warrior with the name somewhere in the line of dfdfsdf dfsaf i am guessing its a pvp character and the players just wants to log in fast and goes dancing on their keyboard with their left hands.

Nice suggestion, but not practical to implement. You want a list of names that can be allowed? This limits creativity in naming. I don't see any other way of banning 'random' names that cannot be easily circumvented. By the way: gold sellers will then use any other name that is still allowed. It does in no way solve the problem.

Impractical and won't work.

Because "rtwpinwar wrtewar" is a name may be? I'm sure that even foreign languages can come up with more "organised" names than that.

Even if it's not workable (I doubt that there's a dev participating to this discussion), it's a good idea.

But, the thing is, every time we make a character, are we gonna have to wait for some Anet employee to OK the name?

Of course not, Anet would never be stupid enough to do that (too costly). The OP suggests that accounts be banned on the basis of their random names if I'm not mistaken. Though there's also the possibility of simply forcing the gold-sellers to change their bot name, which would take them a lot of time on all the bot accounts they've got, which mean less time to scam our game.

That would not work.

I use names like those when I make PvP deletable characters.

Well, then, there goes my account.

To OP: You have a good idea, it's just too hard to police and would hurt too many legitimate players.

Yes, it would slow down the gold sellers, but it would also get legit players accounts stopped
