Reading these forums, it seems that searing flames is the most popular fire elite skill but I can't understand why since it seems to me that mind burn is much better.

With 12 fire magic searing flames does 82 damage and causes burning for 6 seconds, however if you have more energy than your foe, mind burn does 102 damage and sets the enemy on fire for 6 seconds.

Also mind burn has a much lower energy cost (5) as opposed to searing flames 15 cost.

Admittedly Mind burn causes exhaustion but it's ok if not used repeatedly.
So why is searing flames more popular ?

because it can be spammed unlike Mind Burn
With a Searing Flames bar you generally devote your whole bar to searing blames (in terms of energy management). Then spamming SF is all you need.
Also SF will become more powerfull the more people run it at the sametime.

And it isnt the most popular, Mind Blast is ..

Exhaustion really is that bad.

Both are pretty baed.

Mind Burn is kinda fail because you need to spam it for it to be worth the slot, you can't spam it without killing your energy; and it's single-target only.

Searing Flames is bad because it hogs an entire bar, leaving no room for utilities and fun skills, and requires multiples Eles to be effective.

If you pay attention to the people on the Ele forum with a clue, Mind Blast is win.
[skill]mind blast[/skill][skill]fireball[/skill][skill]rodgort's invocation[/skill][skill]fire attunement[/skill]

Strong single-target DPS, the strongest AoE nuke in the game, infinite energy; and then an open secondary and half a bar left to play around with.
GfG, SF and Mind Burn.

3 skills you should know, ranked from worst to best:

Mind burn:
-single target
-exhaustion
-bad. very bad.

Searing Flames:
-AoE
-causes burning on non-burning foes
-Causes damage to already burning foes

Mind Blast:
-Single target
-returns huge energy
-prefect fuel for rodgort's invocation spam

if you are worried about energy:
[skill]Elemental Attunement[/skill] + [skill]Fire Attunement[/skill]

fill the other 6 slots with skills of your choice. I know this idea isn't new, and I know someone's probably gonna shoot it down, but I like it and I stand by it

ps. I know also that Elemental Attunement isn't technically a Fire Elite, but it is an Ele Elite, so it counts. Sorta.

+1 on using dual attunements.

I've already gone over it, with Aura of Restoration, Elemental Attunement, Fire Attunement, Echo, and Rodgort's Invocation.....your other 3 skills really do not matter. You will have high survivability due to the 92hp every 3.5 seconds you'll recieve from spamming Rodgort's while under AoR, plus you'll nuke for more damage than any other spell, including causing burning on a large group, and never run out of energy. You also don't have any exhaustion. Glyph of elemental power makes a good 6th skill......as does meteor shower or anything else you want since you'll have pretty much unlimited energy.

If anyone says your a noob for not using a certain skill.....most likely, the person saying that.....is a noob. Diversify your builds and take no one's word for gospel.

[skill]mind blast[/skill][skill]fireball[/skill][skill]rodgort's invocation[/skill][skill]fire attunement[/skill] The Ele forum needs closing to new posts with that left as the only stickied post in my opinion.

Why do people like Searing Flames? Because it's the first Fire Magic elite you can get your hands on in Nightfall. Nightfall is the king of Fire Magic for a start. I'm guessing SF is so popular because it's easily obtainable. Savannah Heat and Mind Blast in particular are much further into Nightfall...though Mind Blast can be obtained quicker in Eye of the North. That and the fact that when Nightfall was released 3 Eles could use SF to turn PvE into Lulz-Mode.

I did write something on each of these elites, dunno how useful it will be to you:

I like Savannah Heat the best. This one can wipe out entire groups in seconds if they stay bunched up. Used Searing Flames, but never got good results from it.

When you also remember that Rodgort's was nowhere near as overpowering and we didn't have awesomesauce PvE skills to churn out too; Mind Blast doesn't really shine as much.

And, as PvEers as a whole are slow to adapt... We can kinda see why SF is still run

Mind Blast!

(Although I must admit I enjoy using Dual Attune Rodgart's in areas w/ no enchantment removal / no threat!)

To be honest, the nerfs to SF aren't that huge. It does do slightly lower damage, and energy management is a bit harder, but it's still easily the best DPS.

Mind blast has always been viable, although recharge times used to make things a bit rough. The old combo was [skill]mind blast[/skill][skill]fireball[/skill][skill]smoldering embers[/skill][skill]rodgort's invocation[/skill][skill]fire attunement[/skill] with 2 utility slots and a rez. Clearly not as strong as a rodgort's spam guy, but hardly crap.

Here's my only issues w/ this: to ensure you get the energy back from mind blast, you need to meet the "more energy than foe" requirement. Thus, you'll want to put points into energy storage. However, since MB returns energy, you actually don't need the extra energy except to ensure you meet MB's requirement. It seems like a circular paradox - you need more energy so you don't use it...

the "more energy" is calculated before the energy cost from activating the spell (correct? i'm not sure on this)
