This may be silly but I just can't beat this darned bear. I am an ele and have tired many builds and skills but I can't beat him. I can get him down to about half health and then he uses Troll Ungent repeatedly and heals himself back up. I tired "You fight like a dwarf" to knock him down and even though it works and I see him fall over....The Troll Ungent skill continues to cast and is not interupted.

I have tried the stoneflesh tanking w/ mystic regen, mesmer degens, meteor showers, necro curses, sliver armor, Spiteful Spirit and more. The only thing I haven't tried is traps and thats because I never bought those skills for my ele.'

And it seems you have to be holding that darned Club of the Bears to beat him.

Any help?

Equip that club and then bring one of the animal blessings with you. I used Ursan's Blessing and fought him as a bear myself, Bear vs Bear You need to complete a quest or two for that skill or some of the others but try that.

you could do what i did with my ranger. I used bow attacks (poison / flame) to weaken it, and then swapped in the club for the killing blow. counted as completing the quest. Am sure you could do that with some ele skills

Have they made this quest harder since the preview? I remember it being insanely easy when I used my Ranger.

Touch ranger till 50% then clubbed him to death. I don't recall the bear using Troll Urgent, is that new?

u do not need to hold the club while fighting only just before he is going to be defeated equip it

as a warrior just riposte and deadly rispote did the job

when he was less than 30% used ursan blessing equiped the club and finsihed him

Did they make the bear harder than during the preview? I remember just clicking it and walking away on my paragon. o_O

I just spirit spammed a Rt secondary with Ursan Blessing for elite.

As Ranger I used flame trap, throw dirt, burning arrow, poison tip signet, distracting shot (to interrupt troll), Troll Ung, Whirling def, and...to finish him off as I equiped the club I stuck in the PvE skill Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support. Worked great.

Yes they made the bear harder to beat.

I spirit spammed him easily. I set up the spirits just outside of the circle of Norn, equipped the club, then pulled the bear as far towards them as possible and slammed him with Painful Bond. Dead really fast.

I beat him w/o using the club. My bar was something like: Eviserate, Executioners, Agonizing, For Great Justice, Heal sig, (insert random unneeded skills here). I just got most of the trolls with agonizing, but it still took a while.

The quest requires that you be holding the club when he dies for completion. I beat him this way as an ele using this build OgBDkoysSRiED+CCD0CkC4CmCA

Attributes:
Fire 12+3+1
Energy Storage 12+3
Earth 8+1

I equiped the club, cast aura of restoration, both attunements and kinetic armor. Cast Mark of Rodgort on him then spam Flare for damage and to keep kinetic aromr up, reapply attunements and aura of restoration as they run out, use searing heat and energy blast as available for extra damage.

He was dead in 2-3 minutes and energy will not be an issue.

Sorry to use res an old thread, but...

I am trying to defeat this bear with my Dervish, and I'm getting no where. For the past few days I've tried everything I can think of. I've used Ursen blessing, Volfen Blessing, and many other various strategies that seem downright odd now that I think of them.

Now I can tank him pretty good, usually ending in a stalemate with the bear at 50% health, and me at full health or somewhat below lasting for quite a while until I get bored silly and quit. As an earlier poster said, after 50% health it seems like he spams Troll Ungent and Defy Pain, both of which appear to be immune to the limited number of interrupt spells I currently possess. It also appears to be immune to blindness (I thought that if he couldn't hit me becuase he was blind that he couldn't get any adrenaline for Defy Pain).

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to defeat this rabid monstrosity? If so, I'd be in yor debt

I changed my secondary to ritualist and purchased all the damage spirits I could. I cast them where they can attack him, waited a few second to regen some energy, aggroed him, and walked back to where they attack. He died fairly quickly, I don't think I had to recast any spirits and only had to cast mystic regen once. I do not recall if I used painful bond or not, I may have felt I needed the slot for a cheap enchant for health regen, but then painful bond may very well make it such that you do not need it.

It was frustrating until I did that - I had to have a scythe to kill him and never was able to swap the club back in and skill get the kill. I'm not sure what Anet's "vision" was for non-warrior melee classes to beat the bear, but if it centered around actually using the club I don't see how.

Thank you very much for that idea, I will definately try that with the spirits. Now I'm off to go spend another 8k on trying to kill this bear! :P

I don't see what so scary about that cute little bear, it won't even bite my mesmer.

The bear is easily killed (especially by casters), (I hope) the trick is easily explained by the screenshots below:

Less than 1 minute and you can have a roasted bear paws for dinner , simply burn/degen/nuke/spike/whatever it to death, that's all.
