Deeprunner's Map glitch? (spoilers)

I just arrived at Umbral Grotto and picked up the quest from Koris Deeprunner. Having no clue what to do, I just ran around and explored the outpost. Soon afterwards it kept updating the quest and eventually I was finished.

Is this what really happens? How is that considered master difficulty? People have been claiming you have to actually pick up map piece items...

Were there others in your party? Because I had 3 pieces and the other person in my party had the last, I think.

It doesn't matter whether you have any other people with you, I had just the Top / Bottom Left side of the map and it indeed kept updating till the quest reward
