World of Warcraft vs Guild Wars

I agree that GW can be as addicting as any other game out there but you're not paying for it every month so if you need to take some time off, it's no money out of your pocket, which is one of the main reasons that I chose GW over the others out there. But then, I'm also not one to get addicted to games and I have no idea whether the original poster has an affinity to become addicted or not, it's just my opinion.

I joined a guild with a bunch of friends, two in particular that I'll be rooming with starting tomorrow. We always do as many quests as possible because grinding is boring (unless it's a quest, watching numbers go up is slightly more exciting). Whenever we need help, we ask someone in the guild for help, and people are always nice about it. There is a little drama though.

The biggest problem I have is money, becuase I've spent a total of 91 gold respecing my druid for pvp. It's probably because I'm sooo used to respecing in guild wars

I'm beginning to think GW is probably more right for me. I'll keep WoW so I can play with my friends (money isn't a problem), but I'll reinstall guild wars and take that more seriously with pvp. Thanks for the advice!

Auction house- Need I say more?
I could say 9million+ players but ok ill keep it English speaking non bot players so 5million players.

Overall better PVE experience. GW was made for PVP and WoW was made for PVE its natural wow will have better PVE.
Long life ahead of it.- Guild wars 2 is arleady announced and being developed and its expected to come out next year Why not just wait for that while you play wow? WoW has a new expansion announced for next year's winter called Wrath of the Lich king. If your going to play a mmo you might as well play one thats not already declared an end. When GW 2 come out in a year GW 1 will be empty because every 1 will move to GW to so in that point Go WoW its got over 3 years of life left (Blizzard will keep it going as long as they can b4 something new comes out its how they do business.)

I had a Guild master in GW who quit GW to play WoW after I told him to try it out for 1 day, He did and he quit GW quit his guild which was ranked around the 800s and now the Jerk has a stronger character than me who has been playing for 3 years.....anyhow man WoW--->GW for life PVE and community action GW-WoW for PVP quick progression and soloing.

I played Guild Wars.. got a little bored so I tried to play WoW.. loved it untill i got to about level 43 and then it just seemed to daunting so I came back to play Guild Wars which is where I will stay and hopefully enjoy Eye of the North.. perhaps if i ever get bored with that I will go back and play WoW... they're different...

so I suggested to play one when you get bored with the other. But I'm really excited about Guild Wars 2. I'm hoping that will rule them both ^^

I was hardcore addicted when I was going through Middle School to Diablo II, which ultimately made me get addicted to pretty much every other online game I played. I'm completely past it now though, I played GW through college and maintained a kind of okay GPA, 2.8.

It's no big deal, I just didn't know if that's something people around here would get upset about lol

Thing I didn't like about WoW was that you were pretty much stuck with one character class unless you have loads of time to level up another. In GW you just need to unlock a decent selection of skills and you have loads of different options in PvP... and in PvE it doesn't take long to hit 20, so you can try a lot of different classes and builds. With WoW it takes a long time and the quests get really repetitive, so I found I couldn't stomach levelling up other characters.

This kept GW interesting a lot longer for me. Plus there's a lot of grinding in WoW at high level and that bores the pants off of me. Unfortunately it seems GW is threatening to go the way of the grind too with faction skills and the like.

That said, WoW is great fun on your first character. The world is huge and varied, with loads of detail. I did get a fair amount of enjoyment from it.

EVE pwns them both to be honest, it however isn't time friendly and not for the casual gamer.

WoW is better if you like grind, l33t items and good gear.

I would suggest you play the game you prefer more.

The reason I changed to WoW was because I hated the state of PvP and it got old very quickly. This isn't the case anymore.

Grinding quests?

Seriously, grinding with quests isn't more fun because it's quests not creatures you're killing. It's why I quit WoW - nothing to do except the rinse and repeat.

My guild did a sister-guild into WoW back in March. So far playing that game has been really fun. It's a game for those who Love to explore fantasy world without strict invisible borders & enjoy good lore, solid PvE experience. Grinding is bit exaggerated in this forum, it's not a typical Asian MMO we're talking about here.

I played WoW for about 8 months last year (up until just before Burning Crusade came out). God, it sucked a hole in my life. I became ridiculously close to it, which drained my grades and eventually led my parents to withdraw me from school and send me to a cheaper one. So it definitely had a big impact.
I think one of the things that keeps players so addicted to WoW is that not only is it immensely enjoyable, and the community-aspect more heavily promoted (you can chat to anyone, anywhere, as the world is persistent), but because as a previous poster pointed out, when you're not playing, you're not getting your "money's worth". That drag on your conscious really forces you to play the shit out of what you paid for.

In the end, you can't really compare WoW to Guild Wars. It would be like comparing it to EVE Online, where really the only way of comparing the two is in enjoyability through gameplay, which is totally different for every person. GW is a "CORPG" and WoW is an MMORPG. Try both, find out which one you like better, then drop WoW the other one.

Both are for some people. If you willing to take time to the game grind get cool weapons armors wow is your answer. Guild wars just hates players that want to get something. Nerfs and such. If you want to do same storyline with 10 different chars in Normal mode nd hard mode(yea its what anet suggests you to do) Guild wars.

After I heard about the devs using their dev powers to help their guilds out (like giving them info on how to win a contest to get some great items) and then no one in CCP doing anything about it, I'd ask anyone to strongly reconsider playing that game.

And as Malice said, you have to be pretty HC to play that game. And you should try to get into one of the better corps who own most of the star systems.

In probably the greatest irony, after quitting GW for WoW, now I'm quitting WoW.

Not for any of the reasons previously mentioned; the problem I'm having is that after playing somewhat hardcore for 2 months, my gear is too good, and the amount of effort required to get a minimal improvement is tremendous. It's not as ridiculous as Guild Wars' title grinds (You can get honor for the PvP items from actually PvPing); it's just that after getting several epics, an epic flying mount, and a Netherdrake mount (veteran WoW players will know the amount of effort needed to get all 3), there's not a whole lot to do other than raid for the aformentioned quality of items. It is fun, however, to solo complete towns, with Southshore being my favorite, and instigate full-out wars.

After getting my epic Belt, Pants, and Hood, I'll probably go back to console gaming. Too many good games coming out in August and September...

If Kara had more than 10 people and if guilds in general aren't heavily prejudiced against new members both participating and receiving loot, then yes, I might do it...

And I'm only wearing 2 non-trinket Greens, shut up. The belt I'll have replaced with the PvP epic soon enough.

That's a nicely populated server, I'd switch guilds rather than wasting that character.

In regards to your gear: wand. And wait, 2-non trinkets? I see Ancient Crystal Talisman. Has it not updated that yet?
