Someone posted this on GWO a bit ago. I'm not sure how credible this is, but I'll post it anyway and you can decide for yourselves.
http://the-inquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37986

It says the next campaign to be released Q3 '07 will be titled "Eye of the North". It states that it will cost less than the previous campaigns, but it will be an expansion in that you have to own at least one of the previous campaigns (any one).

It says there are 10 new heroes. I didn't think any campaigns other than Nightfall would have more heroes since we'd then have a bunch of repeat professions and such.

After this, supposedly GW will be on hiatus (in that there wont be any new full campaigns) 'til around '09 when GW2 will be released. It supposedly happens hundreds of years after Prophecies and will include zone wide open battles.
And this interesting tidbit:

Playable races include Humans, Charr, Norns, Asurians and Sylvarians.

I for one don't put much stock in the accuracy of this information, but at the same time I can't immediately discount it.....

ADMIN EDIT: I'm going to put some clarifying statements in this post to help people.

From Gaile Gray:

Just a quick word to let you know that we haven't made any official announcements about Guild Wars in, oh, a couple of months. Sure, there's a little *ahem* info circulating this week. But you guys know the drill: Until we say it, it's not official. I can tell you that some of what you've read is right, some of it is wrong, and quite a bit of it is misleading. Unfortunately, we can't offer a fact check quite yet.

The good news is that the top game publications in Europe and the U.S. are preparing feature articles with major Guild Wars news -- I wasn't joking when I said a few days ago that I think it'll knock your socks off. In the U.S., PC Gamer will begin delivery of the May issue to subscribers on March 15, and it will be on newsstands on April 3. European magazines, including Joystick in France, PC Zone in the U.K., PC GamePlay in Benelux, Games Machine in Italy, and PC Gamer in Germany, will reach subscribers and newsstands before the end of March.

Knowing you guys, no matter where you're located, you'll be sharing the info from your regional magazines, and that's great. I want to make sure that I let you know, this isn't some small feature -- I would boldly say that any Guild Wars player would want to buy one of these magazines, subscriber or not! In part this is because they'll offer great articles with a lot of cool info. In part it's because the magazines will give you the chance to adopt your very own exclusive new miniature. Check our website for more info tomorrow!
Next up is from ChaoticCoyote:

The Inquirer is *NOT* the National Enquirer.

The National Enquirer is a supermarket tabloid, with stories about Elvis and aliens.

The Inquirer is an established technology news site, with a somewhat anti-Microsoft, anti-Dell viewpoint.

The article was published by the latter, which has *no* relation to the former.

That said, I can't vouch for whether or not the Inquirer is correct about what's going on with Guild Wars. Like any new site, it could well have been spoofed. Or maybe they found a drunk NCSoft employee in the bar; lots of leaks happen that way.

Very interesting info. I wonder how much of it will come true. Seems like a decent report from that site, and you would have to wonder why they would outright lie about the information.

Not sure if i'm too keen on the no more gw1 news if it is true, but I guess we will see.
Thanks for sharing that Knightsaber

Why wait for PC Gamer when we have this:

"NCSOFT HAS ANNOUNCED the development and release dates for regular annual expansion of Guild Wars universe, and not too surprisingly, that this expansion will be the last throw of the dice before its successor appears on the market.

The add-on will be known as Eye of the North, and stands to be released in Q3 of 2007. The price of the add-on is not known at the time of annoucement, but it will be less than already present campaigns. In order to play the game, gamers must own at least one of the already released GW campaigns, like Nightfall, Factions or Prophecies."

And,

"On the other hand, there are Guild Wars 2. This is a full sequel and will be released in 2009-10 timeframe, with a public beta being released sometime next year. This game will be set several hundred years after GW: Prophecies and Eye of the North, but the main drool factor will be zone-wide events (read, open war in DaoC and Alterac Valley style), combined with refined control system, oriented for action and ease of use. Playable races include Humans, Charr, Norns, Asurians and Sylvarians. Level cap is set, but it is not known at the time, while characters will now progress through the game in a more sensitive way."

There's a screenshot from Eye of the North for you to see too...

I'm completely freaked out right now... Let's discuss. (or maybe tell me that the site can't be trusted and this is a joke.)

Yes it is an interesting article and even though GW may have managed to keep a lid on things, PC gamer might have a leak and the magazines must've been printed or in print by now for shipping. So it is at least plausible. If you need to own a previous chapter for it, then it might mean there is no new starter area and that it may just be all lvl 20 content...Eye of the North does sound good to me though....I love snowy terrains We'll see....

It claims to have been announced at some sort of conference rather than from a leak.

Let's assume this would be true and C4 were released in August-September. We would have to spend about 2 years without new chapters before GW2 would come out. I don't believe even the public beta would keep people's interest that long with just older content, if there's no new content available.

But I'm sure looking forward to that PC Gamer May issue preview now, to see if it ties with this info.

hmmm Roshi can live for a 100 years (make that several hundred years) so I'm sure he'll be in GW2

oh also Gaile let me know about the beta please :P

I was thinking the same thing traveller. Ncsoft would probably lose a lot of the current guild wars base.
2 years in the games industry is a long time. Who knows what other games will come out in that time.

so let me see now. by that article it means you must own any 1 of the 3 previous games. so that means its not really a chapter 4 but just an add-on.

thats basically what i got out of it.

PS did i not say about the presear rabbit saying about catacombs and charr

My gut told me that the next chapter may be north of Ascalon and that's where lil' Gwen fled before the invasion. I wonder if that article is true.

If so...
Woot! New games to play. Yippee!

To everyone worrying about the fate of the franchise, it says that there wont be any new full all-out campaigns. But maybe there will be a sorrow's furnace style update or two (and tons of weekend events...)to tide us over.
(if any of it's even true )

Yes, because Command and Conquer, Doom, Unreal Tournament, Diablo, etc, etc, all failed in their next versions because it was a few years between the original and them....
