Guild Wars for Linux?

Is there ANY way I can get Guild Wars to work on linux? I have the latest ubuntu atm. but it won't work.. It works on my Windows XP though, but Windows sucks major ass cause of all the spyware etc, and Linux is faster + more stable + no viruses + no spyware...

Or if it doesn't work on Ubuntu, is there any other distro.'s that run Guild Wars perfect?

What do you mean? I do have 2 operating systems if that's what you're talking about (When I start up my comp, I choose Linux or windows).

You can try WINE.

Guild Wars is not natively compatible with Linux.

WINE is a Windows emulator that will "Probably" work with GW.

Cedega has better support. It's based off of WINE. But you have to pay for Cedega, so it's really up to you. I got Guild Wars to work in Cedega only to the point where it is about to load the character selection screen but it crashed because my video card isn't supported (GeForce2).

Yeah try wine or cedega. I would stick to dual booting to winxp for gaming if I were you, its just easier than trying to get directx games running on linux.

Well, you only get virus and spyware if you visit dodgy sites or download dodgy software, as has been said, firefox + decent AV software + firewall + spybot, you will be fine.

And you will be very hard pushed to get GW to work through linux.

Yeah commandline is a bit bitchy but you will get it to work. I've get WoW to work in Wine. I was also thinking...how about making a WinXP installation IN Linux (through some kind of virtual machine) that would also be a chance to completelly get rid of Windows. Hope it doesn't crash in VM...

BUT i know that it works in ubuntu with Cedega, i have tried before
not to hard to get to work, it is supported by transgaming so there are some guides out there and help to get it working

WINE is not an emulator.

Guild Wars has been able to run in WINE, however not playably. I can't get it to work on my system with WINE, probably because I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 64 bit... but I have dual boot for games.

Some people have reported that they could get Guild Wars to start up and actually get ingame, but with missing textures/garbled text/extreme choppiness/etc.

Looks like Cedega is the way to go if you're hell bent on running under linux...

It works "fine" on VMWare in my Fedora Core 5.
VMWare does not fully support 3D acceleration yet so the graphics are a bit messed up.

In a nutshell no. None of the DirectX unix/linux emulators (cedega, wine, VMWare) work perfect. Linux uses open GL to draw 3d, windows uses directx (mostly) and some open gl, so the cedega project (which cost money) does run gw quite well, but with some very noticible graphic flaws and wine for the most part is not very playable at all. Wine is slow, buggy and not fully implimented to draw all the directx calls to the gpu. Both are emulators in the sense that they convert directx calls into open gl ones. The transgaming sight (cedega) pretty much has all the info you could possibly need to run quite a few games in linux though not all perfectly.

VMWare isn't an emulator for Windows programs...You INSTALL the OS. So you just create a VM that runs WinXP. So in fact you have WinXP, not Linux. So you DO have DirectX.

Ahh i wasn't imply that Vm was an emulator, sorry about the confusion. Wish they would come up with a Virtual that runs mac osx...
