Prevent leeching: give them what they want: ISLE OF MEDITATION

Due to the fact that many people leech on the game either because they lack time or get bored of it, because of the game mechanics, maybe a system that dissuades them should be implemented. Obviously, it won't give the same benefits as playing for real, however it will prevent for sure people for leeching.

The idea is to create an Isle of Meditation where players can get in there and sit. For every 3-5 seconds that the player is meditating, he or she gets +1 gold OR +1 XP OR +1 Faction to Balthazar - Luxon - Kurzick.

This looks somewhat odd, however it will work for sure.

But then no one would ever log out, they'd just leave the comp running with the monitor off or something.

Um, NO?!

24 hours in a day.
That's 1440 minutes.
That's 86400 seconds.
Divide that by either three or five.
If they gain gold every three seconds, they "earn" 29k approx.
If they gain gold every five seconds, the "earn" 17k approx.

Now, doesn't it seem weird that you can do nothing and earn money?

Sure, 17k-29k a day isn't much, but gold has to be earned, not waited for.

That's way the hell more than I ever earn on the game. Or do you mean actually playing all day?

29k a day would give me a heart attack... i never have gotten that much, i just sold my amber and have 80k most i ever had ever in the game, and it will go down once nightfall comes out.

Well, compared to playing all day. Farming bots, anyone?

I"m pretty sure they rack in a pretty penny every day.

It can surely be restricted to a few hours instead then. Either that or balanced even further, however the goal is to get rid of leechers using a dissuasive tactic. More comments please.

Well, if the idea is to get them to stop leeching off of real battles, then the rewards have to be greater in the meditation areas than what the real battles offer.

People always want what's best for them. If you had the choice of making 50k faction a day or 60k faction a day for being AFK, which would you choose?

This just doesn't work.

The rewards don't have to be greater, they just have to be comparable.

I like the idea. It's the same concept as a lightning rod. Guide the disruptive force (afk/leechers) to an area where they don't cause real players a problem. There was a similar, more detailed idea posted on another GW forum.

Can you say another mass banning?

Biggest problem with this is that Anet doesn't want us in the game any more than we already are. It eats up their bandwidth. You do this, everyone and their brother will be on 24/7. Play a little, then sit AFK and earn whatever.

Maybe do the opposite. The longer you're offline, the more you earn. That would not only save bandwidth, but also favor casual players. I like that a lot

Of course, then you'd have to make it for faction only, and give Amber/Jadeite no value, so people couldn't 'exploit' it for purposes of selling gold on eBay or whatever. Eh, could work.

Meh, why don't we just keep asking ANet to ban them? So much more effective, and why reward the little buggers?

No, they have to be greater in order for the leecher to want to go there.

Let's say you can have a choice of getting 5000 dollars a day instead of 4000 a day for doing nothing.

Which one are you going to choose? Obviously $5000, no?

Now, if the leecher goes afk in an arena with a bot or manually, they might be able to "earn" more faction when compared to this "meditation" idea. No way in hell would the person want to go afk in a place where they can make less of a "profit" when they can make more.

How about something more like... a damge given/taken calculator for AB and PvP type areas. If somebody is obviously afk for 5-10 min, this way it places them into a different mode, like "observer mode" or something like that. In order to get themselves out of observer mode, a request pops up in the top right hand corner of every other player's screen saying "Allow <insert player name> out of observer mode? Yes/No". When a player gets put into observer mode, they cannot gain faction/exp from the battle, and anything gained before then is reset. The calculator could also examine enchantments maintained, etc.

This way, it would be left up to your team whether or not you were put there incorrectly. Which, I think we pretty much know who the leechers are when the games are going on, so it wouldn't be hard to decide.

Unfortunately, this is not a personal aggression and might be illegal in some countries.

The idea of giving stuff to players while they are offline makes sense as well.

Yeah, just hand out FoW armor, 1000 plats and 5 stacks of ectoplasm to the new charas, while we are at it.
